(Narrator's POV)
"Wonder how the session went?" Amethyst asked as she and the others awaited Steven's arrival in Little Homeworld. Connie would be bringing him soon after his session with Dr Diamante.
But while she couldn't quite explain why, there was just something about the doctor that Amethyst didn't trust. The Purple Gem was many things, but stupid wasn't one of them. There were too many question marks when it came to Artemis.
If he saved Steven, why hasn't anyone else learned what actually happened that caused the amnesia to begin with since(assuming he's telling the truth about saving him) he was likely there when it happened?
And the vibe he gave off alone seemed off putting. While Amethyst isn't as good at reading people as Steven is, she was still very good at it. But she couldn't figure out Artemis for the life of her. All she knew is that he was very suspicious, even more so since he didn't want any of them there during the sessions with Steven.
Why? She and the others are his family! If anyone SHOULD be there...
"Hey everyone!" The voice of Connie called out as the girl approached with a confused looking Steven next to her. Amethyst shook her head sadly. It broke her non existent heart to see her brother like this. No memory of the safe haven for Gems that HE made possible...
"Hey you two. Was wondering when you'd get here." A voice said as Kiki Pizza and Ronaldo Fryman showed up at the same time. But to Steven, they were just two more strangers he didn't know. Ronaldo looked at the confused hybrid.
"So he's really lost his memory, eh? Well I know how to help him remember!" Ronaldo said with enthusiasm as he pulled out his phone, prompting Kiki to step in.
"No. Just no. We want Steven to remember good things, not bad things." She said, knowing what Ronaldo would show Steven.
"Hey! My blog would help him remember!" Ronaldo protested as Amethyst rolled her eyes.
"Yeah. And once he does, I'm sure he'd want to forget about it just as quickly." The Purple Gem shot back as everyone but Steven and Ronaldo laughed.
"Hey Pearl? Can I talk to you 3 for a minute?" Connie asked as Pearl nodded and led her, Amethyst and Garnet to an area where they could talk in private. Lapis, Peridot and Bismuth would keep an eye on Steven.
Once they were alone, Connie began to speak.
"I didn't want to say this in front of Steven but he freaked out in the bathroom because he saw a pink version of himself. I pretended not to know so he wouldn't be more afraid, but if he's seeing that...." The girl began to say as Pearl gasped.
"Then he's beginning to remember! This is wonderful! He may soon remember who we are!" The Pale Gem said happily as Amethyst facepalmed.
"This is NOT good! If that's the first thing he remembers, then that's bad! You know how much trauma that caused him! And that's his first and only memory he has? This is anything but good, Pearl!!" The Purple Gem snapped.
"Hmm. But what if there were a way to help him remember something positive so that overlaps the first one? A positive to counteract the negative?" Garnet suggested as Connie giggled.
"And I think I know just what to do about that. Come on. Let's get back out there." She said as the 4 of them rejoined everyone else. Ronaldo was annoying Peridot and Bismuth while Lapis kept an eye on Steven, who was looking out into the distance.
Connie then looked at Steven and got a mischievous grin on her face as she placed a hand on his shoulder, prompting him to turn around and face her.
"Everyone: I'm going to remind Steven of who he is in a way only a woman can." She announced as the Gems chuckled.
"You're going to do his laundry?" Ronaldo said, earning a slap from Kiki!
"What are you about to do?" Steven asked as Connie simply smiled.
"Just trust me." She said as she brought her lips close to his as she leaned in for a kiss. If anything could jog his memory.....
But before Connie could test that theory...
"Steven Universe!" A shrill voice called out as Bluebird fluttered and landed on the ground, ruining the moment.
"I thought you knocked that little gremlin into orbit, Lapis?!?" Peridot asked as the Blue Gem shook her head.
"Apparently I didn't hit her hard enough to send her a good enough distance away." She replied with a groan as Bluebird gave the Crystal Gems a smug look before turning her attention to Steven.
"These Gems have ridiculously claimed that you have no memory of who I am! How absurd! Look at me and prove them wrong!" The fusion said as Steven gave them a look.
"Alright. I don't know who you are or remember anything about you, uh....what do you call yourself? I'm kinda lost on what to call you since I can't tell what you are..." He replied as Bluebird looked outraged.
"What?!? You idiot! How could you forget who I am?!? How could you forget your greatest foe?!? How could you forget the one who you hate the most in this world?!? HOW COULD YOU FORGET THE ONE WHO CAME THE CLOSEST TO DEFEATING YOU?!?" Bluebird yelled as Connie rolled her eyes while the Gems chuckled at Bluebird's temper tantrum.
"Hate to tell you, but Steven doesn't remember Spinel or Kevin, either." Connie said as the others laughed while Bluebird stomped her feet as she took to the air.
"What is a "Kevin"?!? And stop putting me in the same category as that jester!" She snapped.
"You're right. We shouldn't do that. It's an insult to Spinel and how strong she is." Amethyst said as Bluebird glared at her in anger!
"What was that?!?" The fusion snapped as Pearl spoke.
"You heard her. The biggest difference between you and Spinel is that we actually took her seriously. Now leave, Bluebird!" Pearl snapped back as Bluebird glared at the Gems before looking at Steven.
"Just you wait, Steven Universe! I'll get you to remember who I am!!" Bluebird yelled as she flew away, leaving a very confused Steven.
"Bluebird? Spinel? Who are you guys even talking about?" He asked as Connie hugged him.
"No one worth worrying about, Cutie Pie." Garnet said with a smile as everyone laughed but Steven.
"Huh? Cutie Pie? Why did you call me that? I don't get it..." He replied in confusion as Garnet shook her head, reminding herself that Steven had no memories of their past together.
But the reminder of that fact only made the reality of it harder to deal with.
