Let Go

Let go
I stood there exhausted and aghast,
As I finally let him walk past
His oblivion and dispassion
Hit me hard - a final blow
When it dawned upon me
It was time to let go.

I stood there bewildered and dismayed
He didn't look back, not once
My resolution slightly swayed
Slowly crumbling, I was about to break
Succumbing to the syndrome called heartache
The pain was spreading - steady and slow
Despite the affliction
I knew it was time to let go.

I stood there afraid and stupefied,
As the distance between us grew wide
Hoping against hope he would turn around
But no, I had to stand my ground.
Steer away from the current course.
Stay firm and fight the flow.
Because I knew it was time to let go.

As I caught his last sight
I battled the urge to put up the last fight
How could he not look back,
How could he just let go?
All the years, the smiles, the words,
Cut through me like a million swords.
With him I lost a part of me
If only he wasn't too blind to see
My love was stubborn, born, only to grow
Even though it was time to let go.
