That one moment

That one last moment we spent,
Your hand in mine,
You smiled at me from the bed as you gasped your last breath and died.

In that one moment we were both smiling,
tears on our faces, we couldn't stop crying.
We knew you were leaving and you'd never come back.
I kept encouraging you to keep breathing,
But then your world turned black.

Your eyes shut as I kissed the back of your hand,
And Suddenly all of our days we spent together seemed so distant and bland,
And in that moment I just couldn't understand.

You seemed to leave me on command,
Though at the same time it seemed so unplanned.
We were together, hand in hand,
And as soon as your heart stopped my lungs felt jammed

Your mother, in the room couldn't help but sob,
another cry left my sore throat like a mob.
Another came, another went,
Your father hid his face and we were all discontent.

But in that last moment, we never lost hope,
For hope is a feeling we all should be able to cope.
But as soon as the monitor turned red with a beep,
That was the moment hope went to sleep.
