IT WAS TIME FOR ANOTHER WEEK OF GLEE CLUB AND KATY WAS AS EXCITED AS EVER. Skipping into the choir room, she frowned as she noticed Artie struggling to tie up his shoelaces, with everyone else in the room seemingly oblivious.
Going straight over towards him, she flashed him a kind smile, "you need a hand there?"
Looking back at her with a sigh of relief as he nodded, Artie smiled back, "thanks, Katy." He breathed out as she bent down to tie his shoelaces, "I appreciate it."
"It's no problem." She shrugged, casually before pointing to the seat besides him, "is this seat taken by any chance?"
"Only by you." Artie grinned, patting the back of the chair.
"Great." Katy said, joyfully as she sat down and grabbed her notebook from her bag to prepare for doodling whilst Mr Schue spoke, then turning back to Artie to continue their conversation.
When Mr Schue came into the room, they went quiet, everyone stopping their conversations and sighing slightly as they turned to listen to what he had to say, "all right guys, we're doing a new number for sectionals. I know that pop songs have sort of been our signature pieces but I did a little research on past winners and it turns out that the judges like songs that are more accessible. Stuff they know — uh, standards, Broadway."
Taking a glimpse at the sheet music Mr Schue handed them, Kurt's eyes twinkled with excitement as he exchanged an excited squeal with Katy, "defying gravity!" He marvelled, enthusiastically, "this is amazing."
It was slightly disappointing, though not unexpected, when Mr Schue handed the solo to Rachel, who beamed in her usual proud way, unaware as to how desperate Kurt was for a chance at the solo, "you think you can handle it Rachel?"
"It's my go to shower song. And it's my ringtone." Rachel confirmed, full to the brim with confidence.
"Why do we have to go all vanilla on this song? See, what we need is my chocolate thunder." Mercedes suggested.
"We don't have time to rearrange the song for you Mercedes, Rachel's singing it. Don't worry, we'll find something for you to dip in chocolate." Mr Schue told her, through a chuckle, making Katy frown slightly skeptically, "but on to item two — the school won't pay for the special bus we need to take Artie and his wheelchair with us to sectionals."
"That's pathetic!" Katy spat, tutting loudly.
"I agree, that's completely unfair." Rachel nodded along, as her and the rest of the glee club frowned back at their teacher.
Quickly seeing a solution, Mr Schue was quick to reassure them with a smile, "so we're gonna have to raise the money ourselves. See, when I was in glee club and we needed new silk cummerbunds for regionals, we held a bake sale."
