The Four Kingdoms

Each of the kingdoms have a deity that rules over their land. These deities are said to be siblings that've split to build their own lands making it the Four Kingdoms.

The Wei Kingdom is the one responsible with protecting the Four Kingdoms from foreign invaders. The heir is to marry the daughter of the leading military General in order to ensure the fighting blood in their veins. Their Crown Prince is chosen by whoever is the last surviving prince. This is bound to happen each generation where they either die from natural illness or murder.

The previous king before Wen Ling, didn't follow the rite of marrying the leading General's daughter which resulted in unnecessary blood shed; his daughters and concubines.

The Jin Kingdom is the one responsible for keeping balance within the Four Kingdoms. If they are given intel that something is not right, a prince is sent to resolve the issue as a mission and gain knowledge. The Crown Prince is chosen in the selection, and the Crown Princess is chosen by His Diving God Jinhai, where he engraves the black tortoise tattoo onto their skin.

It is almost uncommon for a princess to be born in the Jin Kingdom.
