WHEN VIOLET AWAKES, SHE'S MET WITH AN INTENSE BURNING AROUND HER WRISTS AND ANKLES. As she blinks to clear her vision, she spots the vervain ropes bound tightly around her limbs. There's vervain in her system too, she can feel it circulating around and making her nauseous.
She looks around, finding herself on a dusty, old couch in what looks to be a long-abandoned house. Beside her lies Elena, her terrified eyes so wide they look ready to pop out of her head. Elena stands up, motioning for Violet to follow her.
Violet attempts to pull herself up, but with the overload of vervain, it just worsens the pain and turns the world fuzzy. She barely takes a step before she stumbles back on the couch, her world turning black.
She continues to float in and out of consciousness for some time, until, finally, a familiar voice orders for the ropes to be removed. Within seconds they are taken away, and although her mobility is still limited, the burning pain stops instantly.
"Violetta, Violetta, can you hear me?" The voice questions.
"Elijah?" Violet mumbles weakly in response, unable to hide the smile on her face. She attempts to reach her arms up to hug him but finds herself not capable of doing so. "Wow," She says. "It's been a century and you still don't look a day over a thousand."
Elijah smiles back, leaning down to gently pull her into his arms. "And you don't look a day over five hundred." He replies, letting go.
Violet laughs softly, but it quickly turns into a wince as a wave of nausea hits her, and she collapses over herself, clutching her stomach.
"Violetta, you must put them back." Elijah motions to the necklace that hangs around her neck. "It will make you feel so much better."
"I can't do it. You remember what happened last time." Violet shakes her head, closing her eyes tightly in pain. She straightens out, leaning back against the couch. "I'll lose control again. I can't do that."
"You're not going to lose control, that was different to now." Elijah kneels down in front of her, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. "If you don't put them back, the vervain is only going to overwhelm you."
Violet shrugs slowly. "Maybe so, but it can't kill me." She says. "It was lovely to see you again, Elijah. Be kind to Elena." Her eyes shut again as her body goes limp, falling forward onto Elijah, who catches her and lays her back down.

The next few hours are a blur. Vaguely, she remembers Stefan carrying her out, and curling up against him into the car to sleep, but nothing past that. As the vervain-induced haze begins to clear up, she realises she's in her own bed, now in a set of pyjamas.
She sits up slowly, wincing as she looks down on her arm, noticing the grey veins creeping up it. Hurriedly, she moves to cover it with her sleeve. Only days ago the veins had been tiny and the desiccation unnoticeable, and the only plausible explanation she has is the vervain taking its toll on her, speeding up the desiccation process.
"Hey, you're finally awake." Comes a voice from the doorway.
Violet looks up at Stefan and smiles. "It seems that I am. How long was I out for?"
"Quite some time." Stefan replies, moving into the room and taking a seat on the end of her bed. "Several hours, at the very least. I don't know how long you were out for before we got you, though." He says. "Are you okay?"
Violet nods. "I'm good, yeah. I feel much better." She says. "Is Elena okay?"
"Yeah, a little shaken up, but mostly unharmed." Stefan answers. "There is one more thing... it's Elijah."
"What about him?"
"Elena told me you know him. In fact, you seemed pretty close. Why did you not say anything before?" Stefan asks.
Violet shifts uncomfortably, Katherine flashing through her mind. "I'm not sure." She lies. "I didn't think it was relevant."
"What do you mean? Of course it's relevant!" Stefan shakes his head incredulously. "This is about Elena, to keep her safe." He closes his eyes, taking a deep breath and inhaling slowly. "You know what... it doesn't matter now. Elijah is dead, I watched Elena do it myself."
"I'm sorry, Stefan." Her eyes well up with tears as she shakes her head. "He's not dead. It's not possible, he can't be killed. And there's more, Elijah isn't the only one. And Elena, oh Elena, you can't save her! I'm sorry." She stands up, placing a kiss on the side of his head, before vamp-speeding away, leaving behind the confused vampire.
