Chapter 37

They were Suspicious. Kelso and Sylvester were sat on the bed when Adamak returned to them. He lectured that they should have gotten some rest during the night and insisted that they had at least a few hours of sleep each. Though Sylvester lay with his eyes shut, he had done no sleeping, Kelso tried her best to stay awake but sleep was calling for her.

The next morning they exited the small house. Kelso was able to get a much better look at her surroundings now,it was still dark but not as dark as it was yesterday. It was something Sylvester found odd, usually the forest was just simple darkness. He had adjusted his eyes to the lack of light over the years ,it made watching television rather difficult in fact, that is how he could realize it was lighter then it usually was.

There wasn't much nature that was alive surrounding them, except for the trees.Sylvester could hear their mutterings and rolled his eyes rather frequently to things only he could hear. It was fascinating for Kelso to watch. He was gesturing all over the place , muttering things Kelso couldn't hear but she knew they had a purpose. He was literally talking to the trees.

They were a few feet behind Adamack . They hadn't spoken much in the morning about what they were going to do or why Adam had left them through the night . The two teens were just told to follow him and that they were going to meet someone. Kelso was bouncing in hopes that someone would be able to help them find their lost friends. Sylvester stayed on high alert.

"He met someone last night." Sylvester whispered as they walked close together. It was comforting for them both to be close, Sylvester was reassured that Kelso was nearby and Kelso was reassured that Sylvester was nearby. In these woods you never know what co8ld be ready to jump around the corner. "A hooded person."

"A hooded person?" Worry creased Kelso's eyebrows "I mean , it wouldn't' be strange to be hooded in this place, I suppose so that is." She gave a quick look around the place, making sure Adam would not be able to hear them. "This isn't the most...welcoming of places but If they knew each other why the secrecy?"

Sylvester nodded along to her thought process "Excellent question." They were still talking in hushed tones. "Though apparently Adam also wore a hood Maybe it was just to escape the cold...or the possibility of prying eyes" At the reminder that they could be followed, Kelso wrapped her arms tighter around herself. She had to admit that she had been rather chilly since she came to the fae dimension, she was often covered in shade and had little access to the sun.

"Not too long now children." Adam spoke over his shoulder. The ground was becoming much more levelled then the hilly forest that surrounded his house. The sound of the river was distant now. It seemed like they were heading closer and closer to the town. Though The middle of the forest is where they needed to pass in order to get to the town.

The middle of the forest was very familiar to Sylvester since he had spent all of his life there. He could tell when something was wrong or when something had been disturbed. Not only would he be able to hear the chatter which came between the trees but he could see if anything was out of alignment. The forest was constant and a place where habits seemed to be held even by the earth.

"You grew up here?" Kelso asked as she tried to distract herself from her shivering and the feeling of eyes being on her. "Did you know anything else?" She didn't exactly know the best way to ask Sylvester this, she was sure that it wasn't much of a sore topic as he had mentioned things of his past to her, but he never went into detail.

Sylvester shook his head and looked down at her, he could see the brightness which had dimmed in her eyes, though it was still there. She did not belong in this forest. "No, well not really..." Sylvester trailed off as he kicked some dirt, avoiding the rocks and bugs. "My parents left me when i was a toddler. Then a rebellious dark fae took me in. That was until they were killed." His voice went quiet "That was how me and Laylian became friends."

Nobody could see Adam's face contort in anger . He knew dark fae were known to abandon their children. It did nothing to help their reputation, though that is what they fear. Their reputation clouding the judgment and life of their child. Some hope that their child is found by a kind fae who will look after them, others think neglecting their child is a sign of mercy, so they do not have to witness the horrid rumours.

"Rebellious?" Kelso asked carefully "but you're...they were killed?" Her voice went softer and softer as she slowed her walking . It was a difficult thing to imagine. "They must have taught you a lot though, you are so kind and wise. Surely you were brought up well?" Kelso's disbelief was understandable. As she mentioned , Sylvester was such a kind person and it would be difficult to believe that was a recent development.

"Well-" Sylvester gave a small chuckle. "I was a brat of a child. Honestly i was. Though the fae who took me in was kind and wise. He was a dark fae who had no issue with humans. In fact he admired them. He didn't want to be above them all he wanted to be with them all." Sylvester's eyes were lined with tears he wouldn't shed. "I would like to think he would be proud of me, you know? After benign in the human dimension and living with humans."

Kelso felt tears of her own welling up, she stopped for a moment and placed her hand on Sylvester's arm. The action caused him to stop, though he wouldn't face her. If he faced her then she would see the emotion in his eyes. "Sylvester, I have no doubt in my mind that they would be proud of you. You have done many things to be proud of and I swear you will do many more."

"Addamak!" Came a voice which was familiar to Sylvester. The noise made the two teens jump and tense up.Kelso's eyes were wide as Sylvester's eyes were narrowed . Approaching them was a man who seemed to be in his mid-thirties . He had light hair and light eyes. He was instantly recognisable for Sylvester. Almost to Kelso as well. He wasn't alone though, he was followed by "Laylian!" "Tyrell!"
