agatha of gavaldon is a princess, and she has a secret. several, in fact. she's pretty good at keeping them, by now. tedros of camelot is a king, and he has a secret. just one, but it's a big one, and if it gets out, he's done for. agatha of gavaldon and tedros of camelot are also engaged to one another. she's never met him. he's never met her. it's just standard for arranged marriages. you understand. don't worry, they'll meet soon enough. nothing will go wrong. this is a fairy tale, isn't it? all fairy tales have arranged marriages and overbearing mothers and mollycoddling advisors and gloves and veils and-- what? what's that? that's not the version you've heard? well, this was a long time ago. things get mangled, as they're retold. what? no, that's not the who the villain is. where on earth did you get that from? oh, dear. perhaps we need to clear a few things up (Cover by @ladylesso on Tumblr/Instagram!!)

Agatha and Sophie realise quickly that 'going home', and 'living in Gavaldon for the rest of your miserable existence', aren't quite the same thing. With the barrier between Gavaldon and the Endless Woods permanently damaged, they're offered a chance to return to the School, for what the Deans promise to be a 'new and improved!' and 'much more serene!' second year. Agatha doesn't exactly believe them; but there are reasons why they might consider going back. A few... Well, anyway. Don't be a stranger.

"Your birthright?" said Tedros sympathetically. "Yeah. Mine too. But you're illegitimate, and I'm Evil, so they had a little competition to pick which of us should sit on the throne-- even though in ordinary circumstances, neither of us would have been allowed to. And I don't know whether you remember, but you surrendered when you realised you had no claim." "I wish I hadn't." "A shame, because it was the most noble thing you've ever done." -- sequel oneshot to 'the otherness came', set six months after. agatha, rhian and tedros grapple with the aftermath.

"--I am sending this letter out of concern for Tedros, my son. Over these past nearly seven years, I have found myself somewhat unnerved, on occasion, by his behaviour. In most aspects of life, he is a good-humoured child that most people find charming, but there have been moments where I have found his reactions... disturbing. He randomly flies into passions, becomes possessive of objects, is an aggressive fighter, and lacks temperance. I would dismiss these as merely the peculiarities of a child, but something about them causes me disquiet. When compared to Jacinda's daughter Bettina, and many other Ever leader's children, he sticks out as an outlier, far less measured and more prone to lash out. For my own peace of mind, I researched this, and what I found startled me immensely-- stories of Never children born of Ever parents." --- tedros is a never, and his father didn't even have the decency to tell him. Agatha had thought she was doing rather well at this whole "modern world" business until now. "Let me guess," The albino girl behind the counter says dryly, shooting an unimpressed look at the money Agatha is holding out to her. "Recently surfaced immortal?" Agatha hesitates. Sophie has told her this shop is the hub for all non-humans in the area, but to be identified so quickly-- "Er. Yes. I suppose. Is this not a sufficient amount of money?" "Shillings aren't legal tender anymore." -- by an immortal, ageless vampire's standards, eighty years is not a long time. But it seems to Agatha that 2019 is rather different from 1939. woken by the millennium celebrations in 2000, she's skulked in her house for 19 years, trying to pluck up the courage to come down and explore the modern world. now she's really wishing she hadn't. especially when she stumbles across her oldest... ah, *friend*, trapped in an aquarium. Although his lips are pursed and his eyes are narrowed and he wears an expression like a disapproving high-class grandmother from the eighteen hundreds, he's still hot? What the hell. So Agatha leans back on the stupid creaky plastic chair and smiles a stupid fake smile and asks this stupid guy with his stupid blonde curls that he probably dyes why he's being a dick. Okay, she didn't actually say that. (tedros and agatha are feuding soccer moms whose kids are, unfortunately, friends.)
