The music flowed through the garden, wrapping it in sound. She stood quietly in a corner, feeling the wind dance across her skin. Even amidst the melodies, she sensed the whispers around her from the moment she arrived.
"Bechari... ankhon ke bina zindagi kya hi hoti hogi?" a so-called aunty remarked, her tone laced with pity.
"Party mai aayi bhi kyun? Pata nahi, sab kuch toh andhera hi hoga iske liye," another voice chimed in, a lightness in their words that belied their thoughtlessness.
Their tone wasn't harsh; it was casual, as if they were discussing the weather rather than her plight. She took a deep breath, steeling herself to dissolve their discomfort, and began to walk toward them.
With a polite smile stretching across her lips, she greeted, "Namaste, aunty."
They responded with hesitant smiles, tinged with guilt and false cheer.
"Kaisi ho, beta?" one aunt inquired, her voice suddenly soft, almost syrupy.
She returned their smiles with sincerity and replied, "Main theek hoon. Sun sakti hoon, so aapke shabdon ka andhera kaafi dikh gaya mujhe."
Their eyes widened, blinking in surprise, unsure whether to laugh or offer an apology.
"Waise, mujhe toh laga tha aankhon se andha hona sabse bada issue hai. Aaj pata chala, soch se andha hona aur bhi bada problem hai," she added, her tone light yet piercing.
She didn't need to raise her voice to be heard; her words carried their own weight.
With one last radiant smile-graceful and unyielding-she walked away, cane tapping softly against the ground, leaving behind the murmurs and echoing the truth she had so boldly articulated.
Yet, someone in the background caught her confident declaration, feeling a swell of pride surge within them at her unwavering spirit
