Chapter 1 introduces a large expedition of scientists and soldiers embarking on a three-day voyage to the mysterious island of Carla Rose, located within the magical Enchantment District. Director Vance gives a speech emphasizing a peaceful mission of discovery. However, General Maddox secretly tasks his officers, Captain Rostova and Lieutenant Li, with stealing the powerful "heart of the rose." Meanwhile, photographer Anya Petrova and geographer Elias Thorne meet Zara Rose, who warns them about the dangers of Shadow Island and its hostile inhabitants, while Anya decides to document the journey through photographs. The chapter ends with Rostova and Li slipping away to plan their secret mission, leaving the reader with a sense of hidden agendas and impending conflict.
