When Ren first joined Hermitcraft, he carried a constant, quiet tension in his shoulders-like he was bracing for something no one else could see. He had signed on as human. That was the agreement, the expectation, the role he was supposed to play. And Ren tried-he really did. Most days, he stayed carefully within that shape, that skin, forcing his posture to relax, forcing his instincts to stay buried deep where no one would notice them scratching to get out. He watched the others closely, mimicking little things: how they laughed, how they stood, how they interacted so effortlessly. It felt unnatural to him, like wearing a mask that didn't quite fit, but he was determined to make it work. Because if they knew... if they really knew... he wasn't sure things would stay the same. Even simple things became a challenge. The urge to pace when he was anxious. The way his focus would snap sharply to sudden sounds. The instinct to bare his teeth when startled, even if he caught himself before it showed. Every reaction had to be filtered, controlled, softened into something more human, more acceptable. It was exhausting-but Ren never let that show either. Most of the time, he managed. But the nights were harder. Especially when the moon was full. On those nights, Ren didn't leave his house.

The platform fell silent. Silly stepped forward, her voice cutting through the Hermits like a blade. "Breaking and entering. Burglary. Unlawful alteration of timelines." The crowd shifted uneasily. Scar's smile faltered. Mumbo's brow creased. But Silly wasn't finished. Her gaze swept over them-cold, merciless. A stunned hush rippled outward. Then she said it-clear, final, devastating: "He is the infamous villain... the World Destroyer: Grian." Every Hermit froze. Scar whispered, "You're lying." Mumbo stepped forward, shaking. "You don't know him." Xisuma's jaw tightened. "This isn't Grian." But Silly only stared back at them, unblinking. "Then where is he?" And that was the moment- the breathless, terrifying moment- when they all realized: Grian was gone. And CHRONOS had come to claim him. As children, angels were always told the same stories. Whispered in solemn halls, etched into glowing tomes, repeated until they became law rather than lesson. Demons were evil-cruel, sadistic, master manipulators who thrived on corruption and pain. They were said to twist kindness into weakness and curiosity into downfall. It was drilled into every young angel's mind: demons could not be trusted. To trust one was to fall. Skizz never liked those lessons. Even as a child, he felt uncomfortable speaking ill of anyone-be they creature, spirit, or shadow-especially when they weren't there to defend themselves. It felt wrong, like condemning a stranger for a crime you'd never seen them commit. While other angels nodded along, wide-eyed and obedient, Skizz would fidget, wings twitching, brow furrowed in quiet disagreement. He didn't argue out loud-not often-but the doubt lived in him all the same, warm and persistent. Skizz was troublesome in the way only a good-hearted child could be. Hyperactive, endlessly energetic, he found it nearly impossible to remain still through lectures meant to instill fear and discipline. His feet bounced. His fingers traced the glow of the clouds beneath him. His wings were always half-spread, as if ready to leap into the sky at a moment's notice. The world was too big and too beautiful for him to sit quietly and listen to hatred. More than anything, Skizz loved-fiercely and without restraint. He loved the sun as it spilled over the gates of Heaven, loved the laughter of other young angels, loved the idea that goodness could exist everywhere if someone simply chose it. He wanted to give that love freely, to the skies, to the stars, to anyone who might need it. And the idea that an entire group of beings was beyond redemption didn't make sense to him. Because if love was truly divine, then surely it wasn't meant to stop at the edge of Heaven.

Formerly known as (The Chained Watcher: Retconned Ideas) Old Description: Welcome to my record of retconned possible plot ideas! !!!This is not the main story, and is completely irrelevant to the plot!!! It had all started simply enough- with a dungeon, and with a goal- and had, over time, meandered into a world of beasts and bosses and dangers that Jimmy never had fully been able to grasp until it was too late, until he learned what Deepfrost REALLY was. But, that's a little too close to the end of the story. Let's rewind things back to the start, back to the beginning of the game known as Deepfrost. Let's talk about the first runs, the first deadly encounters, the first small victories. Or . . . perhaps you should be left to discover that on your own. After all, Deepfrost is a game that prides itself in its own immersive experience . . . in more ways than one. --- Deepfrost is an AU that is a crossover of the games Inscryption (by Daniel Mullins) and Decked Out 2 (by Tango Tek). You don't need to know anything about either of these to enjoy this story. If you don't want spoilers for the level design of Decked Out 2 or the layout of Act 2 and some of the overarching lore of Inscryption, I would consider not reading this fic, or at least leaving it for later :]
