A group of kids has to find their way home across a landscape that most of us never experience. Experience an overnight journey of challenges, fears, conflict and hope for the dawn. A short story with a mild apocalyptic theme and a more-less happy ending.

The Pulse: Awakening Something is wrong with the world... but no one can stay aware of it long enough to prove it. In modern America, life feels smoother than it should. Decisions are easier. Conflict fades quickly. People recover from doubt almost instantly-like their thoughts reset before they can fully form. No one notices anything is wrong. Except Luther. An older systems engineer living off-grid, Luther begins to detect subtle patterns in everyday life-strange synchronization in human behavior, impossible timing in infrastructure, and a quiet "pulse" buried inside the electrical grid itself. At first, it feels like coincidence. Then he watches a young man uncover a disturbing pattern... only to forget it seconds later, laughing it off like it never mattered. That's when Luther realizes the truth: It's not controlling people directly. It's correcting them. Through power systems. Through screens. Through the invisible rhythm of modern life. And every time someone gets too close to understanding it... something resets their mind. But Luther is different. He doesn't fully sync with the system. And now, the system knows he exists. They are said to be the gods first creations, and when they crafted us after, they went mad with jealousy and sought to destroy us, to win back the gods love and affection. I was told of godly creatures that were driven mad by their own lust for attention, corrupting the beautiful vessels that were created for them. I was told of scraggly creatures with glowing eyes, not unlike the wolves of the thick underbrush. Looming in heights to match the tallest of trees, pointed teeth for crushing bones of their victims. The reality I was presented with was drastically different. Than all of a sudden you have nothing but what you can carry and you have no where to go. Winter is coming around the corner. How will you keep warm and eat. Everyday is about suriving, espeically living in the Pacific Northwest. From keeping warm on cold nights to staying dry on rainy days. Basic necessarilties are not available and you have to make due with what you can and hopefully find a way to live.
