"There would be no point," Beatrice added, "what chance could a demon have against an Ambercroft?"
The candles flickered and the wind fell dead. The darkness smiled as the shadows whispered near Beatrice's ear:
"I accept that challenge."

It has been fourteen years since Beatrice, Lady Ambercroft, unintentionally challenged a demon to a contest where she must find and destroy him. The prize is her brother Kyrian's life.
Unaware of his sister's mission, Kyrian has just come back from his studies to announce his intention of leaving the family business: demon hunting.
If the Council withdraws their protection it will be that much harder for Beatrice to keep her brother alive. Time is running out and, the trap is closing in, will Beatrice win the contest?
Or will the Ambercroft promise be broken?
