In his final year, Edgar Kelpheart's exams are looking much closer this side of Christmas, and he's hardly in his best shape. Part of a group of friends who foiled a desperate attempt to utilise one of the Sacred Sigils to gain eternal life, he has struggled since the battle, his ability to wield angelic magic waning. The magic of his runes has him leeching life from his best friend, his brother-in-arms.

When more paranormal bodies are found in Portsmouth's streets, Edgar sees signs pointing to a familiar culprit. He just hopes he can find a way to face them...
