Wren of Swansong - mute, lame, and brilliant. Having witnessed a tragedy as a young girl, Wren struggles to express herself under her overprotective mother's wings. She leaves her sleepy village for the great city of Leidblum, desperate to make something of herself. At Leidblum's School of Dreammaking, she meets an unlikely friend in cold, arrogant Kais Blackwood, who's just as equally gifted in dreammaking as she is, a tabby cat named Oliver, and an unconventional, charismatic teacher whose true motives seem to lie elsewhere.

Something is stirring in the Blacklands, an unexplored place where the undreaming are said to be. Little does Wren know of her own lineage, an ancient line of Dreammakers from the rival country of Eyverlin.
