She winced slightly under the dwarves's gazes, feeling the heavy wight of Thorin's glare resting on her shoulders. She felt several stares traveling over the scar running from her left temple to her jawbone and shuddered as they came to rest on the mark beneath her jawbone.

She is a Guardian, a dragon keeper, and she was responsible for Smaug's escape from his chains and the fall of Erebor.

Raine joins the Company upon Gandalf the Grey's insistance that she would find redemption, but then the Dwarves find out about her past.

Will they be as forgiving and understanding as the wandering Wizard is? Or will the bonds she formed with them overcome her past? But more importantly, will Thorin forgive her for damning his people? Maybe he'll allow Smaug one small victory before they reclaim Erebor...

May 2020 Update: I'm attempting a rewrite between schoolwork and quarantining, but it will be a slow process because I want to write a new plot and such. Stay safe!!

Someone to Watch Over Me

34 parts Complete Mature

Thorin Oakenshield has a guardian angel of sorts, only he doesn't know it. Yet. After breaking up a fight between Thorin and another man, Seren Gilwynn vowed to watch over the dwarf prince for the rest of her days. She never thought both Dale and Erebor were on the threshold of being destroyed by Smaug the dragon, with dwarves and men scattered about Middle Earth. Bounced from place to place, Seren has learned everything she could about weapons and fighting, with her promise to keep watch always in the back of her mind. And when she finally tracks Thorin down, she fully intends to keep that promise. Thorin, however, has different plans. He is on his way to the town of Bree, in search of his own father, Thráin, who has been missing for years. When he stumbles headlong into an assassination attempt, he is grateful for the boy who appeared as if from nowhere who comes to his aid. He has no idea that boy is the same little girl from Dale, all grown up now. He also has no idea that the boy he sees as a pest will soon become everything to him.
