24 parts Complete Mature
In ancient Atlantis, an expansive and diverse continent that spanned the Atlantic Ocean some 14,000 years ago, the world stood on the precipice of change. For the first time in history, a humanoid, sentient android walked among humans. Ashur Napahu was the first of his kind. Designed using code for military super soldiers, Ashur's loving, scientist mother left him to a world not yet ready for a conscious, self-aware machine. Yet when he meets an Atlantean woman carrying a deep secret and dreaming of realizing her own potential, something awakens within him. He experiences love in its purest and most fragile form, navigating a society that sees him as unnatural. But love, like logic, is not immune to contradiction. As the weight of expectation, prejudice, and fate bears down on him, Ashur must confront the limits of his existence... and of those around him. Atlantis may have mastered the engineering of sentient machines, but it has yet to master the wisdom required to coexist with them. Journey into ancient Atlantis--a world where the lines between man and machine blur, and a sentient android dares to ask the most human question of all: What is the meaning of life? ******** This novella is a work in progress for the Open Novella Contest 2025, based on Prompt #71: "In a world where artificial beings and humans coexist, one artificial human embarks on a journey to understand love and emotions-only to uncover more than expected."

❖ Interstellar pilot and ex-adventurer Alex Gallegos must keep their team safe on an icy moon as sentient storms threaten to repeat the tragedy that ended their last career. ❖ Everyone in the United Inhabited Solar Systems (for some reason, UIS for short) knows to stay away from Mahaha. The icy moon is notorious for failed probe landings and research missions that end in tragedy: the only people to ever venture to its surface needed rescuing after just two weeks. When a prestigious research group decides they want a turn, they ask Alex Gallegos to lead the team. Perfectly qualified and haunted by their past, Alex accepts, hoping to make up for old mistakes and get just a little further from the earth they've left behind. Two months into the seven-month mission, the team is struggling with discontent, damaged equipment, and blizzards acting less and less like normal weather. As Mahaha moves out of range of help and the storms take on a more malicious character, Alex must face the one foe they could never have prepared for. Mahaha may or may not be alive. ❖❖❖ Complete. Wattys 2021 Shortlister. Standalone sequel (Rocks Can Dance) coming in 2023. Comments and critiques are both welcome and appreciated. I write characters from many different backgrounds, with many different experiences. If you share those traits and find that I have misrepresented anything, please let me know! Collectively, they're known as Syn. ≡≡≡ Photographer Quentin Morgan has almost everything he could ask for. With a dream job that takes him all over the world, married to the love of his life for the past eight years, it's only his husband's line of work that leaves a bad taste in his mouth. This is what Chloe remembers. She isn't sure if this is what happened but she's given up trying to work that out. It doesn't matter after all. If this is what she remembers, this is what happened.
