What we know about Yokai

1.While commonly believed to be from Japan, yokai actually spring up as a result of intense human emotion
2. Contrary to common myth, humans cannot become yokai
3. All yokai are sentient, and have a conscience, and therefore responsible for their actions.
4. Only 7 instances of children being born by yokai and human parentage have ever been physically proven. One of which is a girl by the name of Laura Riswaldo.

Laura Riswaldo is a girl living in Taipei, Taiwan. Having always been considered strange, Laura doesn't find it surprising. Red eyes that tend to glow at times, not to mention the ability to shoot and manipulate magical iron chains from any part of her body, yep, no surprises on being considered weird.
Truth is, Laura is part Yokai, and unlike what people would normally think, she's got absolutely no problem with it. Laura is ambitious though, she aims to get in to the prestigious Yokai Hunter Academy, a place that trains youths to become Yokai Hunters, enforcers who lay down the law on Yokai who cause crimes. Her adopted brother Sora is already a major high level student in the Japan branch Academy, and she want's to nab a similar spot herself. Now if only Laura can get a better handle on her powers, her place as the Academy's regional top student, might just be gauraunteed.

Before school even begins, 17-year-old Jake Kent is attacked by an enormous gray wolf. He's saved by a mysterious blonde, but things get even more unbelievable when he watches the wolf transform into a human. When he sees this woman is a teacher at his new school, you'd think Jake would file for a transfer, but he doesn't. Jake Kent isn't the damsel in distress that so many would expect; he wont run from the mystery. He hasn't told anyone about the attack, but he hasn't forgotten it. When Hunter Sin enters his life, predictability goes out of the window, and an epic story truly begins. Excerpt from Chapter 20 : "The story goes: There once was a priest who protected his village during the night. He said prayers to the gods in order to keep his family and friends safe from the dangerous animals around them. For years, the prayers were enough to drive the wild animals away. Yet on one night where the land was illuminated by the full moon, the beasts began to rise on two legs. The large cats and mongrels that typically fought against each other, banded together under one beast. It was a monstrous wolf the size of a lion with fur as white as the moon itself. "One by one, the beasts neared the town as they followed from behind the white wolf. As the villagers fled into their homes, the priest and his daughters gathered the day-hunters to his side. They watched as the approaching monsters stood and stalked the village fence. The wolf was strong and smarter than the rest. Even in its guttural snarling voice, it managed to speak to the priest. 'You've trespassed too long. Abandon your homes or forsake your lives.' The priest refused without hesitation and stared the ten-foot wolf down." Jake listened to the story with baited breath as he could see where the tale would go next.

(discontinued) In the Shinobi World, a scarce amount of humans believe in the existence of yōkai. Hatake Kakashi is not one of them. However, he isn't exactly the type to bluntly state that they don't exist. After all, a world wherein peace is not a word that can easily be understood is a world with a whole lot more mysteries and therefore, also cannot be understood. During a mission in the Land of Iron, Kakashi, Obito, Rin and Minato find themselves crossing paths with a girl no more than two years younger than the three children. Unexpectedly, the bizarre and cruel weather hasn't killed her yet. It is no surprise that this young girl named Setsuko arrives in The Village Hidden in the Leaves with Team Minato and surprises even the Third Hokage with her long black hair, dark blue eyes, a ghostly white-- almost transparent complexion and a kimono of the same color as snow. Of course, no one really believes that Setsuko could actually be what she could be suspected of being: A Yuki-musume. But in a world where mysteries are meant to be kept, how can anyone say that the ethereal races of the yōkai are non-existent? As Rin, Obito and Kakashi teach her about everything there is to know about living in the village, the silver-haired young boy finds himself intrigued by basically everything relating to Setsuko. Although, with all of the fear Setsuko has always bottled up inside of her, it would sound much easier to befriend her than to actually be able to do it.
