The curtains rustled in the wind as the moon broke through a opening in the dark clouds illuminating a mane of midnight hair sprawled over a white silk pillow.

He had forgotten how captivating her beauty was, her pureness to his evil.

He couldn't help brushing his hand over her porcelain cheek.

He should leave... before he wakes her, he thought.

The dark figure made his way to the window, the orange glow of his eyes stole one last glance at the angel, before he disappeared back into the shadows.

He will have her, nothing dares to stop him...

I felt the bed dip as he sat down on the other side but I focused solely on my task until I was done. "This is a pillow barrier. Meaning, you don't breach this side of the pillows." I instructed, my voice firm. "What if I don't want anything between us?" Phoenix said in a husky voice, and I risked a glance. Bad choice. His eyes were dark and his gaze was on my lips, to my chest, then back to my lips. "Eyes up here, buddy." I snapped the third time his eyes went down to my chest. All he did was turn off the lights. When it was dark, he whispered," Can't I admire what is mine?" I had no answer, and turned on my side. He sighed. Despite taking two naps today, I was out cold the minute my head hit my pillow. I could only hope that in the morning, the pillow barrier was still there. ***** Adira has a secret, one she would do anything to protect. Formerly known as 'His Angel' ~ "Harmony" it was her name; no longer a scream but a simple word. She lifted her head, and saw him standing in front of her, hanging over and blocking the warm sun. She continued to cry, gripping the dog so tight she was probably fucking hurting her. "I can't take it anymore," she said, her lip quivering, her tongue tasting salty. Waiting for the inevitable, "I can't do it any longer." She took a deep, shaky breath. "Mony-" He leaned down gently, sitting in the grass across from her, trying to catch a glimpse of her face hidden in shame. How could he ever kill her? "Please, stop," I begged, my voice cracking. Tears streamed down my face, my eyes swollen and burning. "I can't handle this anymore. Just stay away from me." His words, "Little Angel, don't say that. I'm here to love you," were like a cruel joke. Love? The word tasted like ash in my mouth. His actions screamed something entirely different. "Your sweet words won't change anything. I need you to keep your distance," I responded firmly, putting all my energy into my voice. My breath hitched. One minute we were arguing, the next...fire. Agony seared my throat. He shoved me onto the bed, my head hitting the pillows hard. Stunned, I begged silently, God, please, save me from this monster. His hands were on my throat again, squeezing, stealing my air. Blurred vision, his eyes bloodshot, furious. "How dare you?" he growled. "Consequences, baby." ************************************ He, steeped in darkness, she, bathed in light. A collision was inevitable, a clash of opposing forces that threatened to shatter them both. Would he succumb to the light, or would he drag her down into his darkness? The stakes were higher than either of them could have imagined. This wasn't just love. It was a war for their souls. I shifted uncomfortably in my seat as he stared across the table at me. I could seriously drown in his eyes. He was intoxicatingly attractive and he had to know it. That's why he was acting strange around me. For some reason, he looked at me as if I was the only one there with him. As if nobody else were here. And his voice... it pained me. It actually pained me with how utterly seductive and husky it always sounded. And the way he smelled all the time. I don't know why he smelled so strong, but I didn't mind. He smelled like evergreens and a hint of mint. It sounds like a bad combo, but it dizzied me with how lost I got in it. The thought of not being able to control myself, my thoughts and feelings and body when I'm around him, infuriated me. I was so good at holding myself together now, and he just unraveled me so easily, leaving me a mess. I wasn't the slightest bit afraid of him, and I had no idea why either. Just being in the same room, I felt like I didn't have to look over my shoulder. I didn't have to worry. I didn't even know who he was, and he still drew me in. "So, you were in California before? Why did you move?" Grace Hatfield asked, looking at him. She is our school's college and career advisor. She took me in and adopted me a couple years ago. She even gave me her last name. A saving grace. Why had she invited him here? Why did he come? He turned to her with a smile and a shrug. "Guess I just hadn't found what I was looking for yet." Something about the way he said it, sent a shiver down my spine. Why did I feel like there was so much more meaning behind his words than he was letting on? "Well, I hope you find what you're looking for." Grace said, and he turned to me with a devilish smirk and a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Something tells me that I will."
