Lila Pham works at one of the busiest nail salons in the city; with business booming out of proportion and her fear of her friends and fellow classmates discovering her location of work is at bay, all seems to be going well.

Except for the fact that on one fateful day, some random kid named Kenji Nakamura happened to stumble upon her nail salon with a grin and goofy smile.

And was it mentioned that he happens to be one of the players on her high school's star soccer team?

Sumire Kotani (pronounced "soo-me-reh") is very serious, a serious girl, a serious teacher. She wears her straight brown hair in a serious bun, along with serious glasses, to show the world how serious she is. She's half-Japanese, a linguistics student at UCLA with a chronic case of the financial shorts, who gets a lucrative job as a language tutor for an actor who has to learn to sound like a native speaker of Japanese in six short months. Nick Pensieri is anything but serious. He's a model turned actor who's trying to have as much fun as possible while having a real career and earn some real money. Taking this role in a big budget Japanese period epic was his manager's idea, one he's willing to try, but isn't exactly sure about, especially after he meets his tutor and finds out just how much work will be involved. Talk about uptight! 💥💥💥💥 "I'm Nick, and this is my girlfriend, Meredith," he said with an easy smile, squeezing the hip of the woman who was standing next to him. The young woman sitting across the table looked from him to the blonde who was standing next to him, leaning casually on his shoulder. Somehow, without changing expression, she managed to convey disapproval, from the severity of her hairdo to the very slight narrowing of her eyes behind her glasses. Her eyes were actually quite pretty, Nick could see, a very deep brown with thick, long lashes, though she wore no make-up at all, almost as if she were trying to deny their beauty. "Hello," she finally said, her voice as expressionless as her face. "I'm Sumire." "Soo-mee-what?" Meredith interjected with a laugh. "Like 'sue me'?" She laughed again, shaking her head, ruffling Nick's abundant hair with her hand. "You'll never make it in Hollywood with a name like that, honey." Sumire looked up at Meredith again and blinked. "Yes, well, I guess it's lucky I have no plans in that direction, then, hm?" she said, without even a hint of a smile. Fuuuuck. This was not going to be fun.

"Oh hi, I'm Kayume Shin, some 3rd year high school student. I feel as though sometimes people take life too seriously, take a look around and breath for a sec. I don't think my life as a student would help me in any way since I lack general knowledge (or so I'm told) but there is one thing I am good at. So until that day, I will be..." "Sakiko Yuui is the name and beating you is the game! Don't look down at me just because I'm a mere 3rd year middle schooler! I make sure to start my day with a fresh reminder that I am good at what I do! I wanted to take the courage to protect the person I lo- admire! Did you know, after school, I become...!" "I'm Riho Oshinomiya and believe it or not but I am a 3rd year high schooler! It's such a pleasure to meet you! It really is! I LOVE all things cute and seeing you is brightening up my day! One day, by accident, I learned that sometimes patience can take you a long way because when I joined the after-school club I became..." "Why hello there, I'm Kimi Seishima, your favorite 3rd year high school student. Like any other student, I hated school. It was such a bore and I didn't like the people there much. Of course, that's until I grew up and lit-er-ally blew them away. One day, I learned that sometimes even I must show bullies a little bit of compassion so into that after-school club I went and became..." "My name? It's Yuzuki Agou and I'm a 3rd year high school student. That's what I've been told anyway. I go through school like any other student, basically just going with the flow until that one day I came across a weird club that brought me into a different dimension. Now, in school, I'm simply known as Yuzuki but after school, I'm..." Go take this one last spurt! Don't let the stress of this world overcome you, go awaken a miracle and aim for the future!

He walks up to me, the girl standing behind him. "Hello Jordan," Gillespie says. He points to the girl. "This little lady here is a new student. I'm gonna have her work with you today, show her the ropes. Behave yourselves." Before I get a chance to protest, Gillespie walks off to check on other people's progress. The girl just stands there, looking at me quizzically. "Um," I say. "Do you have a name?" "Yes," she says, and I'm struck by her accent. I think it's French. "My name is Nicole, Nicole Lavoie." "Interesting. Say, is that a French accent I hear? Are you from Quebec or something?" "Yes, I am, she says. "Montreal, to be exact." "Really? I've always wanted to go there!" "That's awesome. Uh, your name is Jordan, right?" "Yes, yes it is." *** Jordan Devlin is a hockey player, and a good one at that. Although hockey has always been his passion, there is one thing that he hasn't been able to figure out: love. When he suddenly meets a girl he finds incredibly attractive, he is unsure of what to do. What will Jordan do about this girl, now that he finds his life turned upside down? *** "Tell me a bit about yourself. You're the first person here that I've talked to since coming here." "Alright," I say, unsure of what to say next. "I spend a lot of my time playing hockey. That's where I strive to be professionally." "You're a hockey player, huh? Nicole asks excitedly. "What position?" "Centre." "Cool. You do much of anything else?" I shrug. "No. Just a hockey player." "Are you any good?" "How does fifty goals in twenty games sound to you?" Her eyes widen. "That's near impossible, isn't it?" "Apparently not." "That's impressive. Now, let's get to work. The teacher is staring at us." I nod, and we get to work. The whole time, I cannot help but smile stupidly, because Nicole took such an interest in me, and who I am. She seems so full of life, and not one to let it bring her down. I'm beginning to like her already.

A Guide to Being a Superhero...Therapist? (Guide to Being, Novella Two)

10 parts Complete

If you think this is what I ever thought I would be doing, you ought to look at the question mark at the end of this title. No one in their right mind would ~ever~ purposefully become a superhero (yeah, you heard that, Eric and Amrita!) Hey, you don't know me, but you think you do. I'm Kim, Kimberly Nguyen. A Vietnamese Canadian girl, trying to graduate grad school and become a therapist. I am also the famed American superhero...Firebird. Talk about a divide, I know. But here's the thing, I really wish I could have had a guide when starting this superhero-ing business. So, I am writing it. Think of this as a little how-to-book . . . but actually don't, because I am pretty sure no one else is going to find themselves in my situation. Think of this as my autobiography, except not because my autobiography would be even saltier. Whatever this thing is, by the time you finish, you will never look at a Marvel movie the same. You will give up all desires of power hunting. Your superhero dreams will crumble in the dust. And you may find that a snarky Asian-Canadian has infiltrated your consciousness. Don't say I didn't warn you!
