"As far back as I can remember, I've been surrounded by water. The salt in the air even now makes it hard to breath, forcing me to squint. Sand clings to every inch of me, caking my pants and shoes. The wind from the ocean picks my hair up, sending it blowing back towards the multi-colored houses lining the shore line. *** 'Quinn, don't panic,' Lexi says through gritted teeth. She holds fistfuls of my shirt now, and I hear the rubber soles of her shoes squeaking. 'Too late,' I whine, grabbing the barbed wire in a last desperate effort to regain some balance. The razor sharp blades cut into my palms, making me jump again. Lexi sucks in air and loses her grip on me. I hold my breath and close my eyes, feeling the wind cradle me from all sides as I fall at about twenty-four miles per hour, considering the height of the wall and my weight. Now, I wish I was surrounded by water." South of Compound 4, another compound exists. Within the wall of Compound 5, children are trained and tested for perfection through the Intelligence Exam, a test that every student takes during their sixteenth year. Pass, and you stay within the compound. Fail, and you are sent to another compound. Yet, what happens when Quinn faces the threat of Compound 5, a short blonde girl whose name he can't pronounce, and begins to question everything he's ever been taught, pushing the limits of the system and his own comfort zone? When a student receives the compound's first ever perfect IE score, a storm makes its way in from the ocean. Can Q unravel the secrets held within the walls, or will he lead his family and friends to a war they can't win against a woman who seems to be triumphing against all odds? Yuan Li was an excellent logistics personnel on the battlefield. One day, after transmigrating, he found himself in ancient times as the son of a minor official. With tears in his parents eyes, they sent him to Chu Wang Mansion to marry to drive away the evil spirits for the ailing young master of the Chu family. On that day, Chu Hechao, the second son of the Chu Wang Mansion, returned hurriedly from the battlefield, still wearing his armor. Without even taking it off, he performed the ceremonial rites on behalf of his brother and paid respects to the heavens and earth alongside Yuan Li. Yuan Li caught a whiff of the scent of blood and dust on Chu Hechao's body, and his heart skipped a beat. He understood that this was a dangerous individual. That night, Chu Hechao drank a cup of ceremonial wine with Yuan Li on behalf of his brother. Yuan Li smiled gently and said, "General, please." As he held the wine cup, his fingers were as slender as jade, and his handsome face was adorned with long, fluttering eyelashes. Chu Hechao stared at him for a while, his expression a smile but not a smile, before raising his hand and downing the wine in one gulp. Half a month later, the young master of the Chu Wang Mansion passed away, and Chu Hechao abducted Yuan Li, taking him on a horse and heading straight for the frontier. *** Yuan Li continued to exert his efforts on the ancient battlefield. He cultivated crops, raised cattle and sheep, cleared roads, and established medical facilities. Busy day in and day out, he fed the mighty army and comforted the wounded soldiers, turning the military camp into a better place. The generals treated him as if they were meeting their parents who provided them with food and clothing. The only man who had brought him here wore a perpetual scowl, suppressing his anger. "I am the one you married, the one who drank the ceremonial wine with you, and also the one who shared the wedding chamber with you. Shouldn't you be looking at me?"

Dr. Elizabeth Hunter thought her life as second year resident could not get anymore frantic than her ER rotation. Crashing heart rates, bottoming out blood pressures, and hysterical patients were something that she could handle. She'd been trained for it after all. But when a patient came into the ER with an unknown disease that Elizabeth has no idea how to treat, she found herself thrown into chaos as the newfound illness plagues the US. After a few close calls, Elizabeth joined ranks with Sergeant Luke Falls who lead her to a military base. Elizabeth tried her best to navigate the unknown in her post-apocalyptic reality, fighting off infected while trying to treat them as patients. In conjunction with Luke and her new comrades, she discovered some particularly troubling information of the etiology of the disease and must make crucial decisions with the lives of those she cares for most hanging in the balance. --- "This is a bad idea," he warned as I started down the hall. "You know, usually I'm the one saying that," I said with a smirk. "If your crazy-ass ideas are the voice of reason, I can't believe you and your friends have lasted this long." He shook his head. "Someone needs to talk some sense into you guys." "I don't need sense. Just luck." The threshold to the lobby loomed ahead. With one last look over my shoulder, I blew a kiss in his direction. "Wish it for me."
