It's been more than 500 years since humanity tore itself apart, a series of natural disasters and nuclear war killing most of the population. The world is still irradiated and people are still dying, but small groups of survivors are making the best of what they have. Everyone is looking out for their own survival.

Mitch and Jerome were born days apart, the only survivors of a large family group, struggling with the realization that humanity wasn't as perfect as they thought. Mitch wants to believe that humanity did good.
Josh and Simon seemingly have everything they needed, food, water, shelter and each other, but Josh wants more than that. He wants to begin the journey back to where humanity was, to where everyone could live comfortably.
Lachlan and Rob were trying their best to keep their little group alive, making the most of the natural resources around them while Preston battles with the idea of religion, old versus new.
Harry and Vikk simply want to find peace in their life, stability with a group of people they could trust. There isn't much trust in a world where resources are scarce. 

All of them dream of more, of a better life. Can they find what they were looking for?

None of them ever expected to be reaped, none of them thought they were going to be forced into fragile alliances for their very survival. They never expected that they would be thrown into the Hunger Games where they would have to fight to the death- and only one would survive. Vikk and Harry were forced together out of fear, being some of the youngest tributes. Mitch and Jerome had been friends since childhood and when one volunteered for the other, they knew they would go together. Preston, Rob and Lachlan allied because they felt alone and needed someone to fight with. Josh and Simon were from different districts but allied to have a better chance. The Hunger Games created relationships and then tore then all down- all for entertainment- panem et circenses. {This is a Wroetostar, Merome, Pooflan and Minizerk book and take place during the 74th Hunger Games. The events of the original book series did not happen.}

Losing Our Battles- A Vikklan, Merome and Poofless Story by user189289

Everyone has their battles. Preston was diagnosed with cancer, leukemia, at 17 years old and 7 years later he was still battling it. He's almost never home, spending months upon end in hospital receiving treatment that is working less and less each time. Rob's parents never seemed to care about him but as he got older and became more independent, they became abusive. Nothing he could do was good enough for them. Mitch couldn't remember a time that he wasn't depressed, that he felt like he was alive. Treatment never seemed to work, meds only made him feel worse and the only thing that made him feel anything was bringing a blade to his skin. Jerome didn't know how the addiction started, but drugs had always been apart of his life. His parents were addicts so it seemed like fate that he would follow the same path, and now he didn't know if he could change. Vikk had turned to alcohol to lessen the pressure on him to succeed and now it was just apart of his life. He tried to hide it and got pretty good at it too, but he was sure that someone knew of his habit. He was drinking his life away. Lachlan was diagnosed with schizophrenia. The mania set in worse as more years passed to the point where he wasn't entirely sure what was real anymore. Everyone has their battles, but sometimes, people lose.

Lachlan goes missing. No one knows why, or who took him, or where he went. There was a man, a lone, unidentified man on the security footage that lead him away from the bar while his friends stood, waiting for him. With no witnesses willing to come forward and hope running out fast, what is there to do? First a day passes. Then a week. Everyone is frantic, pleading his return- pleading for information. Someone must know what happened, someone must have seen him. Someone took him, and that someone is still holding him. If they hadn't killed him already. Time ticks on. Vikk can't continue a normal life like this, no one can move on. There are photographs, memorials, tributes and everyone is still pleading for someone to come forward, but no one does. How can anyone move on like this?
