Emma Morel is the perfect specimen of how life doesn't always turn out. At 28, she's single again after a twelve year relationship with her high school sweetheart Craig ends. Even though it was relatively amicable, Em still feels like she's failed at adulting. The fact she's studying another Masters with the seemingly impossible hopes of getting into her PhD while trying to hold down a job as an admin assistant doesn't really help much.

Her five best friends are adamant she get back on the proverbial horse and go out of their way to make her. Which is all fine, until a new guy at their local asks about her relationship status and the girls make it their mission to hook the two up.

But as Emma gets closer to Jaime, another prospect pops up,
Ryan Matthews had been one of Craig's best friends for years and Emma had always had a bit of a crush on him. She'd even been embarrassing enough about it on plenty of occasions. So, when the idea that Matthews might maybe have felt the same all these years?

His sports of choice included basketball and soccer, either of which might line him up for a scholarship next year. Ryan had a group of close friends and a lot of adoring acquaintances. It wasn't easy juggling his athletics and keeping the grades up, but he was just that good. The supporting parents didn't hurt either.
