A year has passed since Laughing Coffin has trapped ten million people with the condition of only one to escape if they bring in artificial intelligence MHCP-001. 

Kazuko Haku (A player that goes by Raito in SAO) has been trapped along with her friend Atsuo Kirigaya (Asugaya) in game. With the help of the disbanded guilds, they plan to overthrow Laughing Coffin whilst secretly protecting MCHP-001 or Yui from captivity. 

 Meanwhile, in real life, Asuna Yuuki teams up with an eccentric detective named Ren Kurusu with goals of freeing the ten million players. Realizing a disturbing truth of SAO and it's roots. What it really was and its purpose.
