Lukas Bondevik is what you could call a normal person these days. He owns a cottage in the outcast side of town, in the forest. 
One day he's out, looking for an opportunity to steal some coins. But he gets caught in the act, by a dane, called Mathias Køhler. The Dane gets him arrested, but when Mathias learns the truth behind Lukas' stealing, he convinces the king to let Lukas go, but for a price. 
He and Lukas sets out on a dangerous journey through forests and towns, to Dovrefjellet, where the petrifying Dovregubben has captured the one and only daughter of the king and queen, the Princess.

You have 3 main Viking tribes, The Bondevik tribe which is based on magic, but you also have the Køhler and Oxenstierna tribe, they are based on the strength of their men. The Køhler and the Bondevik tribe have an alliance which meant that the two soon to be tribe leaders are very close. Not far from the other two tribes is the Oxenstierna tribe. Berwald is the new leader of this tribe after his father became too old. The Oxenstierna tribe and the Køhler tribe have been enemies for as long as most can remember. He lives with his younger brother Emil, their mother, and their drunk of a father. He has been working since he was 12 and wishes his parents would divorce for the sake of his mother. Mathias is the child of a famous inventor, and has been lonely his whole life, for his mother died at child birth. He and his father live in a large mansion. How do these to meet you ask? Lukas's host family happens to have the last name Kohler. :)
