Neil's jaw tightened, "Don't do this. Don't put walls where we had vows."
She scoffed, blinking back tears that dared to betray her, "Vows? Is that what you call what you did?"
He stepped closer. She stepped back. It was a dance of distance and desperation, "I want a divorce." She said suddenly.
Silence.
And then-he looked up. His expression shifted, hardening. His jaw tightened. His hands curled into fists. He tried to breathe, but the air had turned into knives.
She saw it-that familiar fury brewing behind his eyes. Controlled. Dangerous. The storm behind the calm.
The words hung heavy. Deadly.
His breath left him in a sharp exhale. He blinked, once. Twice. Like he didn't hear her right, "Don't say that." He said, voice rough now, "Don't ever say that again."
