Alyssa Lothran is a reserved, but adventurous hobbit maiden who has just come of age. She is a skilled archer and pianist, and lives a peaceful life with her mother and little brother in the Westfarthing of the Shire near Michel Delving. However, when she decides to go on a late-night ride and is chased by wolves, she ends up miles away in Hobbiton. She stumbles upon Bilbo Baggins' hobbit-hole, and intends on staying the night. However, a party of dwarves arrive that night and she joins Thorin Oakenshield's company  on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. During this adventure, she has to learn to let go of her past, forms close bonds that she never had, and unexpectedly falls in love.
