The first entry in my third short story series, The Necromancer Prince!

Out beyond the Twelve Worlds of humanity's far future, in the boundary realm between life and death, there lies the Halls of Memento Mori, home to Janus Coinblack, The Thirteenth Necromancer Prince. Scion of Sovereign Death, Duke of the Crepuscular Court, Keeper of the Hellhounds, he watches over the spirits crossing between the world of the living and eternal oblivion with his Scythebearer Carmen Salazar and his sentient Gateway Dorian Avery.

One night, Sovereign Death comes to Prince Janus in a dream, demanding he come to the Silent Court and carry out an urgent mission. A journey across the realms of life, death, time and space ensues as Prince Janus and his servants seek out something of great value that may be lost forever...

[ magic, romance and madness. ] Everyone knew that a romance between a guardian and their protégé always ended in tragedy - yet they risked it. One day, I read that in real-life fairy tales, the princess sometimes needs to befriend the dragon and kill the prince, perhaps not to the most extreme extent, considering the prince's utility. (*Wink*). Twenty years had passed since the demise of the last living descendant bearing the bloodline of a potent family within the mystical realm. Individuals who possessed magic more formidable than anyone could have fathomed and that very magic could be pilfered if they were to meet an untimely end-a rumour ignited like wildfire. Word began to spread about the sole surviving member of the Lysion family, the last vestige of a lineage renowned for their blessings from the gods (or, as some argue, their curses), once no more than bedtime tales for children. Two decades earlier, a game of hide and seek unfolded that culminated in the death of the final Lysion at the hands of Oldo Blake, a formidable figure in the annals of history. Or so the story goes. An obscure girl. A concealed secret. A relentless pursuit. With a motley crew of bewildering Other Siders on her trail and an absolute dearth of knowledge on how to harness her precious magic, Rosélina Johnson's life transformed from that of an inconspicuous university student to that of a fugitive in the mystic realm, utterly unprepared for what lay ahead.

Most would assume all magic blends together, but those deemed dangerous will always be dragged out of the shadows. In this world necromancers are those bunch who will always be pulled from the crowd. One bad person causing hundreds of years of discrimination and genocide. Even with those odds some still try to help and change the years of hate towards them. Many die trying, but two sisters think they'll succeed. One a healer who has treated many plagues and famines, even traveling into areas populated by the very people who have massacred her kind. No matter the warnings she faces from her traveling companion, she never changes her course in the name of helping those in need. All she wants is to be in a world without hate towards her and other necromancers. But will her kindness and sacrifice be repaid in the simplest form? On the other hand, her sister travels looking for answers on why things are the way they are. Surely an entire world of vastly different magics and people can't be entirely changed by one person? It makes no sense for one person to determine the life of many generations to come despite all the good they've done to change their fate. She wants to find answers but isn't so daring to go into countries of people who would publicly execute her, unlike her sister. She doesn't have that kind of courage or will. But what will the sisters discover? Will they be able to change what has been done or get burned in the process... Cover made by me with the help of Pinterest references
