❛❛Blue eyes, dark hair.
Tall frame and a poisonous tongue.
I'd recognize those features anywhere.❜❜

After The Dark War, Zoya Caldwell couldn't remain in York and live a peaceful life in the Institute that had once served as a sanctuary for her family. Having suffered a horrible loss of her parents to Sebastian Morgenstern's forces, thirteen year old Zoya is being sent off to live and train in Los Angeles.

With a broken heart and scarred mind, Zoya tries to embrace the spirit of the City of Angels, giving her best to adjust to the everyday life which involves being surrounded by a whole lot of Blackthorns and a single Carstairs girl. Much to Zoya's surprise, her shattered heart quickly opens and the Caldwell girl realizes that maybe - just maybe - the old saying held some truth to it.

❛❛Sometimes we have to lose something precious in order to gain something priceless.❜❜

But, in the midst of newfound joy and much-desired peace, Zoya forgets that those things weren't meant to last for long. After all, they were Shadowhunters and Shadowhunters' lives never came quiet and tranquil.

"She was never meant to be his weakness. But now, she's his only obsession." Arsh Bajaj never touched a woman. Never let them close. Not because he couldn't-but because he didn't want to. He ruled the world with cold precision, his touch worth more than empires. Women were irrelevant. Love was a myth. Desire was a weakness. Until Ziya. The first time he saw her, something inside him snapped. Not softly. Not gently. But violently, like a dam breaking. She wasn't like the rest. She wasn't drawn to his power, his wealth, his ruthless dominance over the world. She didn't look at him like he was a god. She looked at him like he was... nothing. And that was his first mistake-letting her exist outside of him. "Ziya, you don't understand. You don't have a choice anymore." She should have run. She should have fought harder. But Ziya wasn't someone who begged for mercy. She was a storm disguised in quiet solitude, a girl with shadows deeper than the night itself. She wasn't made to be owned. She wasn't made to be his. But that was too bad. Because he had already decided. "You belong to me. That's not love, Ziya. That's fate." And fate was merciless. Just when the fire between them turned to something terrifyingly real, the ghosts of their past came clawing back. Enemies they didn't even know they had. Betrayals from the people they trusted most. Lies that could destroy them both. Arsh wasn't afraid of the world. The world was afraid of him. But this wasn't just about him anymore-this was about her. And if anyone dared to take her away from him... If anyone even laid a single scratch on the only thing he had ever asked for from the universe-his Ziya... "I will bring hell to their doorstep. And I won't stop until there's nothing left of them but ashes." But the question was-who would betray who first?

I obey, sensing a very wrong and dangerous vibe from her. She continues, "I am Ms. Smith but you will call me madam." I reply, "And I am Clar-" "I know who you are if not why would I have summoned that demon to kidnap you," she interrupts, glaring at me. I am shocked, why would this lady kidnap me. I am completely perplexed. She must have seen it on my face because she says, "You killed Jonathan Morgenstern when all he did was love you. I HATE YOU. If you weren't there he would have loved me. SEQUEL TO CITY OF SECRETS It has been three months since Ember Fairose defeated Jacob Ashwright, and the Shadow World has been lulled into a certain sense of peace, or so it seems. In the New York Institute, Ember is leading the seemingly perfect life-she is raising her ten month-old daughter alongside her fiancé, Jonathan Morgenstern, has her loyal parabatai, Isabelle Lightwood, standing by her side, and has the help and love of all of her friends and family, not to mention that everyone in the Shadow World seems to know her name and face. Ember is presented with new chances and opportunities, but finds herself feeling unsure of the ideas of the future everyone is creating for her. To make matters worse, a familiar evil emerges from the shadows, stronger than ever, calling Ember back to the battlefield. The hope of finally achieving peace in the Shadow World shatters, as does Ember's hopes of living a simple, uncomplicated life with her family. Suddenly the perfect life doesn't seem perfect anymore. Tensions appear in places she never thought possible when a person from Jonathan's past makes an unwelcome reappearance, shaking them to the core with a surprising revelation, and suddenly she finds herself questioning the only thing she never thought she would ever have doubts about. It's bad enough to live with secrets, but when shadows are added to the mix, darkness always follows, and, well- Facilis descensus averno. Yes, the descent into hell is easy, and if there's anything Ember Fairose has learned in the Shadow World, it's that we are all so much lovelier when we fall.
