The story follows Sonic as he attempts to restore the world after his nemesis Doctor Eggman shatters it with a powerful laser to unleash Dark Gaia, an ancient evil while dealing with having become a "Werehog", a werewolf-Esque transformation, which he gains after accidentally coming into contact with the energy of Dark Gaia. He's not alone, however, as he is with his Pokemon and some new friends to help him on his journey.

When he discovers her, it turns out to be someone so familiar to him, a girl that has been after him for a while, but he always rejected her because of Dr Eggman until now. The girl has also calmed down her love for the blue hedgehog as her condition is the same as Sonic's, but she still does love him as he loves her. Note: Just to point out, while this story is based on the game Sonic Unleashed, the Werehog sides of Sonic and the girl are more like what you see in like werewolf or fantasy movies. Like for example: Professor Lupin in Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban.
