Ashlynn Frathurt is a teenager who knows the definition of pain. 
After going through the worst, she is sent to live with her estranged mom and begin a whole new adventure at her new school. 

    There she meets a trustworthy best friend, an  amazingly sweet crush, his not so welcoming girlfriend... and to top it all off a teacher... a special teacher.

     Will Ashlynn learn to overcome her obstacles by rising above them all and believing in herself, or will she allow herself to be defeated, yet again and sulk back into a world of misery?

This book is about how to overcome, more like learn to live with and co-exist with, depression and self-doubt. And how people around you may act a certain way but could be far from what is really happening with them. In other words, anyone around you can smile and laugh all they want but once they are by themselves... they break completely. This book touches on sensitive topics that have scarred and hurt people of all colors, ethnicities, nationalities, sexualities and genders. There are mentions of hate crimes, racism, manipulation, depression, self harm, suicide, and sexual and mental abuse. If you have experienced any of these things, my heart goes out to you. Each of these characters has their own things they deal with behind closed doors... each of them a part of myself. A book that is coming from a fellow Eccedentesiast. Eccedentesiast; (noun) someone who hides pain behind a smile. Some trauma from home is found and in danger of being told, things that she doesn't really want people to know. You'd think getting through high school would be easy. A certain bad boy who happens to be her neighbor takes a keen interest in her. She's never liked anyone and has had no real interest in any relationship, only her studies that kept her busy. He's smart but acts like he's the greatest and he tries to impress her but she can hardly be impressed by things she can do. Distractions around every corner with the bad boy and the popular mean girl group that doesn't approve of the bad boys attention on her.
