This poem is written from the angle of a loner having imaginar friends -Zilly and Senny. Content with imaginary friends, they forget there are people meant for them, out there in the world. This poem expresses their contentment in this state. As he/she is deeply happy, they start to sink deeper into this condition which often results in mental agony. But imaginary friends are a mental construct in your mind, created for company? for fun? for childhood. And usually it stays there. But for Elise that wasn't the case. At the young age of five she had an imaginary friend named Brayden. A companion to a young girl who needed it. Eight years later when common sense and knowledge had been knocked into her, the very thought of imaginary friends had been discarded. Too childish withthe events of a teenager's life becoming much more prioritized. But is there a restoration of faith when he returns? When he tells Elise that he was no imagination? Learning of Brayden's helpless situation she wanted to prove to the world that he did exist. That he deserved the recognition he hadn't been receiving... yet. Sound of a Broken Drum by CKLingersay

Syd is living on the edge of his broken psyche when he comes across the person he had been waiting his entire life to meet. As things flourish, the rude awakening of the edict "nothing gold can stay" changes the tune of Syd's life as he finds out a truth that is completely devastating. And in the world of mental illness, this is a particularly harsh reality where Syd has to make a difficult decision on what he has to give up in his life. But even a broken drum has to keep beating. The entire story has been published from Chapter 1 to the Epilogue. It is broken into three parts, each quite distinct from the others as Syd's life is altered dramatically. This thing is a labor of love. After completing the story, I realized how much it meant to me personally. I learned things about myself I did not know until I wrote it. I feel as if from writing "Sound of a Broken Drum", my life has changed. In the way I perceive it and in the way I perceive the world around me. This story is not for everyone. There are a lot of people I know who would never want to read something like this. It's not for the apathetic, the privileged, the ones who coast and indulge in the bullshit. I know a lot of people like that. Maybe I wrote it as a means to get away from them. There are certainly people I feel who would read something like this. The mentally-pained, the loners, introverts, the lonely, those who struggle through the everyday things many people take for granted. Those who know too much. And feel too much. I know what that is like. And I know this is why I wrote it. Because we can share each other's experiences through words, no one has to ever feel like they are alone, regardless of how distant the world is. And regardless of how much trash and clutter from society there is in the way of your field of vision, always know there are those few you will find who will make the struggle well-worth it. A story alway means something important to someone. Maybe the writer is the most attached to the work,because it's something that person made with great efforts. This is something like that for me. (Currently being rewritten under a new name The Claimed) Everything changed when they came out of hiding, terror spread across the world as people began to question if our presidents and our global leaders lied to us and weren't from the same race. The Beasts blended in amongst us as if we were the same, except humans didn't have the same predatory instincts and we couldn't change our forms like they could. Soon after we learnt that we weren't the only species people began going missing. Some were unlucky and taken as something that the Beasts called a Mate that one word made fear spread throughout my veins, I would rather sell my soul than have one of them mutts chain me to them. Six months went by before the government, that was un-tainted by this vile race began to take action into their own hands contacting other countries and militaries causing the great war to happen, sending both my parents off to fight for our rights. Only one of them came back, two months was the longest we lasted before we were overpowered by them. Six years of living in this dysfunctional environment and my hatred had never dwindled. Some people still believed in god and had faith in him, I didn't know what I believed in but I prayed like everyone else that I would get through another day without hearing the soul crushing word 'Mate'.
