Simplicity is the hallmark in the world of programming. 'However, after being a software engineer for decades and being among the most experienced programmers, simplicity is one word that has meant different things to people and one that seems so hard to define,' says Lum Yat Kay, a Malaysia-based software engineer.

To some, simplicity is about coming up with designs and patterns that make programming easy to do. Some are of the view that so far the codes are not much or contain fewer lines than expected, it can as well be regarded as simple. Others think technology is getting more sophisticated and there are autonomous systems that bring about simplicity in coding.
