Tales from the Triverse is part detective drama, part fantasy adventure and part space opera. I'm influenced by the likes of Iain M Banks, Isaac Asimov and ND Stevenson and work including The Wire and Gotham Central.

It begins with an incident two hundred years ago which crashed three parallel universes together. Portals open up in 18th century London, sending England down a very different path. We pick up events in the 1970s, with the Metropolitan Police having established a new department to handle portal-related criminal activity.

The story is about intolerance, immigration, multiculturalism and power. It's about what happens when incompatible viewpoints are weaponised to seed discontent, and the efforts of some to create a fairer world. In the tradition of the best science fiction, fantasy and crime fiction, I'm using the setting to examine themes that matter to me in the real world.

Who is it for?
If you like science fiction or fantasy, or a mix of both, this is for you. It's my first foray into crime fiction, but I hope if you're a fan that you'll enjoy yourself - especially if you're looking for something a bit different.

I write fiction that is optimistic, progressive and empathetic. Bad things can happen to good people in the stories, but the overall arc tends to be hopeful.

Note that if it were a movie, Tales from the Triverse would be a 15 certificate in the UK.

The Double Cult Cha-Cha: An Al Squires of the Protectorate Story (Book 1) by ddubtyn
49 parts Complete Mature
If you met ever met Al Squires, you'd never know that this eccentric, mercurial, irreverent, snarky, arrogant, occasionally accident prone, half-crazed (self proclaimed) genius son of a witch and mad scientist was a special secret agent. One that any agency would hire, at least. But, then again, The Protectorate, the Multiversal multi-faceted organization that keeps the Balance between Order and Chaos throughout the Multiverse in check, isn't the kind of organization that you're used to. Here is the first in an exciting, philosophical, thought-provoking, mind-bending, and genre-blending series. In this story: After a successful bust in an interdimensional black market warehouse, Al accidentally releases a twentysomething young woman in a stasis pod. After being forced by his boss to take responsibility for her and protect her, he later learned that she appears to be just a Blando-Rando, a regular human being who isn't In the Know. Which, he hates, because 'Blando-Rondo babysitter' isn't one of his many (self-described) skills. But, after seeing her very dormant powers awaken as they're both being chased by two different cults- one wants to sacrifice her, and the other wants to preserve her forever- Al learns that the biggest adventures can begin unexpectedly. If you knew about Multiverse Theory, then you know that anything that CAN happen, WILL happen; if not in this universe, then in another. Well, in an Al Squires of the Protectorate story, anything CAN and WILL happen.

To makes matters even worse, the Midnight Whip belonging to the primordial goddess Nyx was stolen, and everyone thinks Thea knows where it's at. Stories for several comps/collabs, amalgamated into one collection. Two of them actually placed in their respective sections (yay!): -Mysterious Ways - 1st place, @PsychologicalNovel's "Wake Up In the Morning" comp (June 2020) -The Listeners - 1st place, Last Summer 2020 collab in the @WarriorGoddess section (July/August 2020) * -'The Flower Hunter'. Loosely based on the folklore of seductive water sprites, particularly the Vila (a Central European version of Rusalka). Written for @AfterDark's "Mirror, Mirror" contest (Mar 2020) -'Mysterious Ways'. A young woman wakes in the wrong version of her bedroom. Or is it so wrong after all? ('You wake in a strange place, possibly as someone else.') -'The Listeners'. Morial and her fellow Spirit Listeners work hard to maintain the balance between nature and mortals; until, one Summer, Morial is accused of upsetting that balance herself. ("I know what you did last summer". The prompt features as paragraph nine in my story.) -'Between the (Spread)Sheets'. An accountant and a trader play cat-and-mouse in a City firm. (@Crime's 'Deceptive Detective' Aug 2020: one criminal goes undercover to expose or be exposed by another.) -'The Unexpected Message'. A missed phone call proves momentous for a young art historian. (@AmbassadorsUK/@Fanatsy/@WattpadFairytales's 'Underground Tales' contest Nov 2020: pick a Tube station - King's Cross/Angel/Seven Sisters/Knightsbridge - and imagine what lies below which is connected with the name. I chose Angel.) The only real thing in this story is the Museum of London (which has an excellent Roman gallery, btw); any coincidence with real heritage experts - or indeed the unrealistic probability of such a find - is my fault. -'Cyclopean Arches'. In the year 3542, an advance exploration party finds some interesting ruins. (Nov 2020. 'Underground Tales' (again): King's Cross.)
