  Ophelia's mother gave her away to HYDRA because she couldn't care for her. She was used as a lab rat for HYDRA, turned into a weapon. Tortured, experimented on, locked up, caged. 
  
  Ophelia was always obedient to HYDRA, always dutiful and efficient in the beginning. When HYDRA captures Steve Rogers' best friend, James Buchanan Barnes, she witnesses his transformation from American soldier to HYDRA weapon. 
  
  When they no longer need Ophelia and her path finding abilities, they turn the Winter Soldier against her.
