BOOK #2 OF THE WESTBROOK HIGH TRILOGY
Born a Florida native, sixteen-year-old Rachael is the new girl who moved into town at her Californian high school. And already not even a full week in, she hates it. Despite being smart, pretty, funny, an Honor Roll student, and a bit dorky, Rachael misses Florida and all the friends she managed to make at her old school. She doesn't mean to be a downer and so unenthusiastic, but Rachael thinks Westbrook High School sucks by comparison of her old school.
Since she was little, Rachael remembers never being able to stay in one place for too long. Much less, actually maintaining meaningful relationships with people that didn't eventually fall away from her after she moved away from them. Her dad was in the military, so Rachael and her family moved around the country a lot. That is, until her dad died while fighting in the Iraq war when she was little. Now, on top of being without a father, Rachael and her family struggle for money, Rachael sees a psychologist weekly to cope with her problems, Cole, her younger brother, is a fourteen-year-old jock on the football team, her formerly alcoholic mother works as a stripper, has a shady new boyfriend, and Rachael still hasn't been able to make new friends at Westbrook High School.
That is, until Rachael meets Brianna. A sixteen-year-old popular, foul-mouthed, wanna watch the world burn rebel who wants to have fun and doesn't think about the consequences. Rachael learns that Brianna comes from a rough start and past just like her. In Brianna, Rachael sees a friend. Someone who understands her and wants to bring out the life in her again. In Rachael, Brianna may see something else.
While the two of them quickly become inseparable best friends, their differences start to show as dark and tragic events start to play out during their sophomore year in high school.
