The Sídhe: creatures of the earth that hold incredible powers, and a rare sight indeed in Rienne. Maeve, a girl who can draw fire from the sun, is one of the few Sídhe left--and the only one to linger amongst humans. She is content to live a simple life as a farmer's daughter, working beside the ocean and caring for her cattle.

But peace is a fickle thing, and flees easily. When strange, dark beasts long since reduced to myth--Tremluí--return to ravage the land, Maeve's quiet existence is shattered. To protect all of Rienne, she sets off with the aid of a Sídhe boy who claims to know how to stop the nightmarish creatures.

It is a dangerous, long journey to the Tremluí's home; to survive, Maeve must rely upon her flame as never before. After all, even the deepest shadows will be driven away by the light.
