Another failed test run of Isaac Sumdac's Bi-Directional Unified Transit Terminal (also known as the BUTT) results in an odd switcheroo of sorts. Now Ratchet, Bulkhead, and Jack Darby from the Aligned world must adjust to life in futuristic Detroit while Ratchet, Bulkhead, and Sari Sumdac from the Animated world get involved in a Cybertronian war in the small town of Jasper.

Unbeknownst to the Autobots, the Decepticons have also been affected by the BUTT's malfunction. Blackarachnia and Lugnut are transported to the Nemesis in the midst of a war that their faction lost millions of stellar cycles ago. And in another universe, Starscream and Soundwave are stuck on Earth with uncooperative Decepticons and another chance to reclaim their homeworld.
