Henryk Sienkiewicz's short story, which was first published in 1881. It tells the story of Skawiński, a Pole who comes to the Panama city of Aspinwall to take the position of a lighthouse keeper.

The old man, tired of a very intense life, who wandered around the world for many years, took up various professions, fought in wars and uprisings, looks for a place where he could finally rest and remember his beloved homeland, to which he cannot return (through the participation in the November Uprising years ago).

Sienkiewicz wrote The Lighthouse Keeper during his several-year trip to the United States, and the story is based on the fate of an authentic person.

!COVER ISN'T MINE! Every year, on December 20, the UN holds a meeting in the United Nations headquarters with all the countries and the world organizations. Every country must be shown 7 days before the grand meeting. It was 6 days before the grand meeting, Poland's eyes wide as he looked at the forest outside of the taxi window. He was going to take a walk in the forest, he wasn't the biggest fan of cities, anyway. Just as he was admiring the view, two taxis collide, causing both cars to fall off a cliff. Poland and the other passenger had survived but at the cost of losing the ability to fly and both were knocked out. Now they were lost with the dead drivers after the cars had exploded. Just as Poland had started to stir, he woke up to the country. They didn't have a great history and had always avoided eachother, despite the fact it had been so long ago... Germany. DISCLAIMER: This book contains sensitive topics such as romanticizing countries and references to WW2. This book is only for entertainment purposes only, not to glorify the times of the history between Poland and Germany during the war, nor to offend anyone reading this book.
