The accident took away my legs. Paralyzed me from waist down for the rest of my miserable existence. It happened instantly, the doctors said. The moment his car smashed into mine my lower spine was done for. Ripped to shreds. They said I was lucky they didn't have to amputate. This is being lucky?

It wasn't fair. The other driver chose to drink until his vision was blurry. He chose to get behind the wheel and drive under the influence and over the speed limit. Why was I punished? Why did he get to walk away with only a concussion while my life was shot to hell? It wasn't fair.
