Y/N has always felt out of place, even around their friends and family. Everybody has a tattoo on their left wrist, a countdown until the exact moment they meet their 𝖘𝖔𝖚𝖑𝖒𝖆𝖙𝖊. One little hitch; before anyone meets their 𝖘𝖔𝖚𝖑𝖒𝖆𝖙𝖊, their world is completely black and white, except for the eyes of their true love. This is how it is for most, but what happens when Y/N, seemingly the only person who has their countdown in an unrecognizable language, gains the ability to see in color during their first turf war?

Until recently, Y/N just lived their life peacefully, moving every so often due to their parents work. They tried not to get attached to anyone so they wouldn't end up hurt, or hurting someone else once they move again. After meeting certain people though, will they have to move so often? Anyways, I'm not 100% sure where I'm going with this story but eh. The updates will be extremely random, hope you're all are okay with that. I'm mostly going to go around the main storyline with... slight changes? I just hope I don't make it anymore confusing than it already is. QUICK NOTE PLEASE READ L will be slightly aged down, I don't feel comfortable writing Y/N as an 18 year old and L as a 24-25 year old with romantic feelings for said 18 year old. L will instead be 20 since that would work out better for the story. Near will not be a love interest, he will be more of a younger brother figure, and Mello will have more of an admiration for Y/N, like a kid crushing on a celebrity sorta thing. I'm gonna try and make this sorta slowburny, but with my writing style, I'm sure that won't be an issue. I'm also gonna try to keep this as gender neutral as possible, so please let me know if I've accidentally used the wrong pronouns or something throughout the story!! But when you kiss your soulmate for the first time, you tattoo glows and shows their name. But this only happens when it is love and love only. (So if you just kiss someone to kiss them then your tattoo won't glow) As for your soulmate dying, your tattoo turns black and shows a small picture of them with their name under. Some could be a star, a flower, a yinyang, a fish, or even waves. There are so many people that the symbols are almost limitless. The tattoos don't care about gender or number. There could be gay matches, and there could even be polyamorous matches. The tattoos will tingle when you are near to your sm. And they will glow if you have found only one of your sm's if your match was poly. The trick is, you don't get the tattoo until you are 16. And even if you are near your match, as long as one of you are not of age, your tattoo will not tingle. Also, they are normal tattoos (except you don't get it or choose it, it just appears) so you can get rid of it. But if you do, your sm won't die but they will get very sick. The main characters of this story, Violet West (18) and Harper Black (20), both have a flame tattoo on their cheek. They live in the same state but for 4 years Harper paniced because she couldn't find her match. She wasn't sure if it was because her sm wasn't of age yet or if her sm lived far away. For 2 years Violet also paniced but she knew that some people don't find their sm for 5-10 years after they come of age, so she wasn't as scared as Harper.
