England needs allies. Scotland doesn't need to go to war again. After the death of his first wife, Princess Mary Rose Tudor, Charles Brandon is a free man to marry, and a pawn that his friend and brother in law King Henry will use.

The Duke of Albany is now regent of Scotland and strikes a marriage agreement between his illegitimate daughter, Genevieve Stewart and Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk. But what starts as a political arrangement turns into something more.

England, 1450. King Henry VI has been on the throne for almost thirty years, and has failed to live up to the legacy of his father, Henry V, the victor of Agincourt. His early reign was dominated by two uncles, the Duke of Gloucester and Bishop of Winchester, who were constantly working to overrule each other. Against Gloucester's wishes, a peace was brokered with France in 1445, and King Henry was wedded to the French King's niece, Margaret. Gloucester and Winchester are now dead, replaced as chief minister by the allied Dukes of Suffolk and Somerset. The English province of Normandy has fallen to the French and Suffolk, has taken the blame. With the threat of unrest in the kingdom, Suffolk is sent into exile on the continent. But the common people are determined not to be cheated out of justice... Updates will come, but may be slow going. This book is the first in a planned three-part series about the Wars of the Roses, what I'm provisionally calling 'York and Lancaster'. To be perfectly honest, I wrote this mainly for myself, so if you do end up reading and enjoying it, let me know. I have tried to keep the narrative as neutral as possible. If multiple characters have the same name, then the one who appeared second is likely the son of the former (e.g. after Thomas Courtenay, 5th Earl of Devon, died in 1458, his son, also called Thomas, became 6th Earl of Devon). Characters with titles will be referred to by their title (e.g. 'Henry Holland, Duke of Exeter' will be referred to as 'Exeter'.

~𝕭𝖊𝖙𝖗𝖆𝖞𝖆𝖑 𝖎𝖘 𝖔𝖓𝖑𝖞 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖇𝖊𝖌𝖎𝖓𝖓𝖎𝖓𝖌~ Born the youngest daughter of Charles I, Duke of Bourbon, Constance of Bourbon grows up amidst comfort and splendour on her powerful family's estates in France. A shy child, she prefers her prayers and pearls to the hefty politics her Father and brothers have no choice but to partake in but war will reach into her life quicker than she could ever know.... Across the sea, in England, the Wars of the Roses rages, a bloody battle for the throne between the royal Houses of York and Lancaster where a word weighs as much as the swing of a sword. Amidst it all, stands Edward of York, the handsome eldest son to the Duke of York, a young knight, eager to fight but forced to flee England in 1459 when the Lancastrian King and Queen overpower his family forces at Ludlow Castle. With his Neville cousins (one being the infamous Earl of Warwick) Edward sails to France where Warwick begins his plots to regain the House of York power. It is as a result of these plots, Edward and Constance are destined to meet. Worlds apart, they will be matched for the benefit of others but when tragedy strikes at the very heart of the House of York, forcing Edward closer to the throne than ever, they find they are, perhaps, what each other needs. Amongst the tangled nest of vipers, surrounded by bloodied thorns, will they keep the crowns destiny calls for them to claim?
