Sequel to "Escape from the Witch Hunters" Jack kept walking towards her and Ami kept backing up until finally she hit the wall. "Why are you doing this?" "Doing what?" he had an arrogant smile on his face and he got closer to her. "That." she nodded towards his closing in on her. Her breathing and her heart beating picked up speed. "Is it wrong for me to want my own wife?" his own body was nearly pressed against hers and he rested his head between her head and shoulder. "It is when you, just days before, resented the very fact that I was alive." she closed her eyes, trying to steady her breathing. "Maybe I've had a change of heart." he looked at her. She looked at him with her blue eyes. "I don't think so." "What if I said I loved you?" he whispered hoarsely. "I wouldn't believe you." she rested her head against the wall as her heart pounded in her ears. IRON HAND (BOOK ONE): FOR THE GREATER GOOD by LowHale
34 parts Ongoing Mature
"Iron Hand" begins in the throes of what most stories would consider the final battle. Buren, leading the "Seekers of the Artifact," utilizes the power of the Gauntlet, an ancient artifact for which he sacrificed his own arm and triumphs over the dark lord, ending the undead scourge plaguing the lands. Without a foe to unify them, the alliance of various racial, religious, and political factions begins to unravel. Reluctant negotiations result in an uneasy peace that leaves many dissatisfied, especially Buren. Now feared and distrusted for the power of the Gauntlet, Buren finds no respite. Dark visions he believes to be warnings from the Gauntlet haunt his dreams. However, his fears are dismissed as the delusions of a war-weary mind. Determined to confront this new threat, Buren follows his visions to an ancient mountain, located within the sacred grounds of the Dryads. The distrustful Dryads deny him access. Out of options, Buren infiltrates the Faith, a fanatical human supremacist religious order, becoming their enforcer, their "Iron Hand." As Buren travels, we delve into the backstories of the "Seekers of the Artifact," witnessing his navigation through a treacherous web of intrigue where trust is a luxury he cannot afford. The realm suffers under a despotic king, with whom Buren must ally on the surface, while secretly plotting his downfall. The situation is further complicated by his arranged marriage to a woman harboring her own dark secrets. Literary heroes sacrifice everything for others, but what happens when saving the world requires sacrifices from everyone? When do the ends cease to justify the means?. What if saving the world involves sacrificing innocents, betraying loved ones, and allying with despised enemies? "Iron Hand" is a story of a man who gave everything to save the world once and is now prepared to do so again, even if it means crossing lines he never thought he would. But will he still be hailed as a hero?
Gamleon's Tail ~ Welcome to the worlds of : Within ~ by Cicada3300
8 parts Ongoing Mature
I wrote this for EVERYONE. An introduction to my universe.Best for slow , attentive , close reading. Stick with it. When you get to the action parts (which doesn't take long ) you should be invested enough to want to unravel the mystery and enjoy its intrigue.. The flood is raging. A terrifying, heartless mountain of water, swallowing the world in inevitable finality. The tunnel networks? Of course, that won't save them. The forests? Like leaves in a breeze. The lookout towers and trade hubs? Gone. Washed clean. What does it take to take everything? Every home, every name, every last trace of what once was. And who would do such a thing? And how? No one has ever seen anything that would make them believe in magic. Gamleon is the first to see and to survive. His mind near collapse under the strain, his heart broken. He runs. What would you do? What could anyone do? A world of mythological beasts and medieval men, where Gorgon hordes slither beneath the earth, clawing for metal, for power, for anything. But they come for your children. Opulent kings wage wars over things no one can even recall, blind to the coming obliteration. There is an isolated, forgotten place. A cavern, magnificent and vast, older than civilization. A place where the weird and the unwanted might ride out the cataclysm. In this special place, something incredible, cut off from the outside, lurks. Something... you won't be ready for or ever expect. Our weary, world-worn adventurer is a paradox: terrifying perhaps, yet tender, grotesque but with a quiet dignity bordering on noble, intimidating and innately intelligent. With no choice but to navigate the unexpected Gorgon tunnels, his inner thoughts help us all learn how to persist and triumph in the face of impossible odds. Join him and be swept away as he reconciles never-before-seen innovations and insurmountable challenges. Dignity and hope. Self-respect and courage.
A Lord and Lace (Regency au! Prince Arthur x oc) by kfacecookie
1 part Complete
A wayward regency au one shot I wrote for fun, and because the concept wouldn't stop haunting my mind. ~ Trying to get back up after his ex-fiancé left him, Lord Arthur Pendragon relents to his friends and families idea of hosting a party in his family's estate. Although holding up hope for a new love that evening, he could not predict falling head over heel for a woman with haunted eyes, who secretly hides a crooked and wicked grin and a spark of intrigue unlike any he's glimpses before. After catching the sight of that side of her, and the way her families mistreatment severely dampens it, he finds himself sure of one thing. He's going to get her out their grasp, but doing so might be more tricky then first expected. Miss Harriet Frodesdotter is stuck in a hell of constantly being forced into a uncomfortable, lace covered, dress, into unbearably loud ballrooms, and dealing with condescending suitors that her controlling sister manages to steer towards her. The sudden approach by a Lord Pendragon does make her pause however, his sweet and concerned eyes appearing to be almost horrifyingly sincere as he offers to help her with her family issues. She doesn't trust him, he's not the first to claim to be her savour for purely selfish reasons, but something tells her that there's something more to him, and not in a bad way. ~ Content warning for ableism, family issues (including abuse, I don't perceive it as especially graphic, but it's there) and depictions of meltdowns.

No Bullets for the Beast

12 parts Complete

It was supposed to be his last day on the job. Unluckily for Killjoy, this crazed, cannibalistic beast tried to make it his last day on Earth. Killjoy had taken this god-forsaken mission for a little bit extra money before he would quit. He was tired. The middle-aged bounty hunter had etched his name across American mythos after decades of killing, gunslinging, and doing dirty work for one too many fat, greedy pigs. It was easy work, but the man can't get any older after years of doing it. And with a wife at home who he visited only so many times he could them on his one hand, and a daughter whose face he can barely remember year to year, it was time to hang up the boots. But when he is told about one job that could potentially set not only himself and his family for life, but for generations to come, Killjoy decides to screw it and do one last mission. The money he made was good, but not enough to last them. The reward? The deed to a gold mine. And the job? To investigate some desolate woods for missing people. It was as easy as they came. What a load of crap. The second Killjoy stepped foot into those forests, he knew something was not right. Desecrated bodies, the eerily empty mines and woods devoid of any light or humans, and the gnawing hunger that grew in him no matter how much he ate through his rations. Something was not right. And when Killjoy laid his eyes on it, he knew it was either fight or die.
