A collection of short stories ranging from the realistic, magical realism or even straight up fantasy genre. A lot of these will be written for prompts or contests, so feel free to check these out for inspiration as well. Here is a (mostly) spoiler-free description of each of the shorts: • WEARING GREEN AT A FUNERAL Contest #33 of Mystery Contest & Writing Prompts, The Verdant Case PROMPT: It's not a disease. Many doctors have confirmed it for you. It's not a prank. You live alone. So, why is your body turning greener day by day? • GOLDEN HOUR PROMPT: Write a story that includes a famous movie line (ex. "I'll be back.") Summary: As a storm brews and the sun sets over the horizon, a man sits at the pier and waits for an old friend. • A SWIM IN THE RAIN PROMPT: Write a story that lies somewhere between reality and dream. Summary: A young, troubled girl sees a strange sight at the beach. But was it real? Or something else? • A JESTER'S SMILE Summary: A seemingly simple question leads to sad revelations and an uncomfortable conversation between a banished elf and a human jester. • LET ME BE YOURS PROMPT: Write a story from the perspective of an inanimate object. Summary: What happens when a bloodthirsty soldier becomes the sword of his own enemy. • JOY IN SADNESS PROMPT: Pick an uncommon word and write a short story about it (ex. "Charmolypi", a feeling that combines both joy and sadness). Summary: Sometimes, the greatest joy can be found in the deepest sadness.
