What do you do when everything you know comes to an end?

The battle is over, Voldemort's gone, everything they ever wanted has come to pass. So why is it so hard to return to a "normal" life? How does one simply pick up the pieces and move on? When your entire life and identity have revolved around this one thing for so long... what do you do you have left of yourself when that one thing is over?

Or... an 8th year story addressing the aftermath of the war and what it means to realize you've lost everything in the process of winning. But maybe it's all just part of the process of becoming who you were meant to be.

Gave it a mature rating for language and themes, but there are no graphic descriptions of anything.

The war is over. Everyone is back to life as it used to be, but not everyone. Draco Malfoy cannot handle the guilt he feels any longer. A voice tells him every single night that he is a traitor, that be does not deserve any kind of love after what he did. He lives like a zombie, until his beloved mother cannot handle it any longer and sends him to a clinic to get the help he so desperately needs. But recovery is not the only thing he finds in the clinic. Harry Potter might be the real hero who saved everyone from Lord Voldemort, but he certainly does not feel that way. He cannot sleep but when he does the nightmares hunt him. The pain he feels and the fears he has almost kill the boy who lived. Until one day his girlfriend cannot handle it any longer and sends him to a clinic to get the help he so desperately needs. But recovery is not the only thing he finds in the clinic. *** I feel like I should give some warnings. This book contains a few things that I should probably warn you for (in the first chapter you can find more warnings) : - It is obviously a boyxboy story so if you do not feel comfortable reading a story with a homosexual theme please do not read the story. - It will contain mental illnesses and I do not want you to read another word of this book if you know your sensitive for this kind of things. Your mental health is way too important to take any risks! - And last of all, the story will probably contain a lot of grammar mistakes. You see, English is not my first language and this is actually my first English written story so please do not hate me if I make any mistakes. I want to emphasize that I do not support the fact that some people are romanticizing mental ilnesses out there. This story does contain mental health issues but it is about showing you that you will always be able to find love and support, no matter what. 2nd place - TheCosmicAwards 2019/2020
Choices of the Heart by Naadi11

Immediately after defeating Voldemort, Harry begins to have strange dreams, dreams that pull him once more into the realm of the newly dead. At first, the dreams are only a curious mystery, and Harry sets about putting his life back in order after the war. But when Harry dreams of Narcissa Malfoy, his life suddenly goes in a much different direction than the one he'd always imagined. This story ties up the loose ends about the Elder Wand and the Deathly Hallows. Choices of the Heart was written for the following prompt: "You are the true master of death, because the true master does not seek to run away from Death. He accepts that he must die, and understands that there are far, far worse things in the living world than dying." Note: The story contains conversations with dead people in dreams, most of these are older original characters, but there is one OC child. No actual deaths are portrayed and no canon characters die except for those who have already died in canon. I understand that death may not the easiest thing to read about for some, but I want to assure readers that I have tried to handle the concept of death in this story in the most uplifting way possible. This is not a story about loss and angst, but about finding hope and love, making choices, and trusting in the beauty and synchronicity of the universe, even if one crosses the boundaries between life and death. It also has, like almost everything I do, a generous share of silliness. There are also four hidden jokes/plays on words in the fic. ;-)

Grief is different for everyone. Thoughts on loss, struggle, and new beginnings. The battle was over... Voldemort was dead. But for so many, the war raged on. This is going to be a little different from the usual post Hogwarts battle fan fiction books. For one thing, there isn't one main protagonist... there are several. All of who are trying to simply move on. But this is the Potterverse and when is anything ever that fucking easy?
