Maegelle Targaryen was wrong, as some of the people would whisper. With a dragon that was said to not be a true dragon, and a meek heart in her chest, she wished only for peace, no matter the cost. Even with the blood of the dragon in her veins, her head drives her to the brink of the war between kin.

Whispered Serenade

44 parts Ongoing Mature

"The only thing that could tear down the house of the dragon was itself." Long ago, the Old King Jaehaerys I Targaryen held a council where all of the great lords of the Seven Kingdoms were summoned. There, they would choose which one will inherit the Iron Throne: the Princess Rhaenys, daughter of Prince Aemon and Lady Jocelyn Baratheon, or Prince Viserys, son of Prince Baelon and his sister-wife, Princess Alyssa. Through a vote the realm decided Viserys would be named Prince of Dragonstone. No woman would sit on the Iron Throne. Yet, the now King Viserys I Targaryen appointed his daughter, Rhaenyra Targaryen as his heir. The Seven Kingdoms had already rejected a woman, they would do it again. When the King remarried, his wife gave him a son, his council advised him to name him heir but he never did. The King didn't know then he would lead his realm to a war remembered as the Dance of Dragons.
