18+ | steamy, angsty rock star romance with a touch of humor THIS IS A SPIN-OFF SEQUEL TO "A SLIP OF THE HAND." It can be read as a stand-alone, but it does contain major ASotH spoilers. ***Proceed with caution! This blurb contains spoilers for "A Slip of the Hand"*** It starts at a wedding. Fiercely independent Seattleite Victoria Bradford has all but sworn off dating. But when she attends her cousin's glamorous Southern California wedding solo, she's blindsided by feelings of loneliness and inadequacy. In a moment of vulnerability, she meets a brooding, charming stranger. He's witty, disarmingly honest, and-oh yeah-the frontman of the chart-topping rock band, Oliver Rose and The Thorns. Oliver Rose is hollowed out by fame, not to mention the tumultuous journey that led to his latest multi-platinum album. He isn't looking to meet anyone, especially not at his childhood friend's wedding. But in Victoria, he finds someone who sees the man underneath the mask he wears. Victoria and Oliver's instant chemistry transcends their usual barriers, forging a connection neither expected. They've got everything going against them: a thousand miles distance, completely different lives, and the relentless pressures of Oliver's career. However, the biggest threat to their budding romance isn't their contrasting lifestyles. A relationship from Oliver's past threatens to eclipse everything. Unification Awards 2025: Short-List and Highlight Story Cover concept/design by the amazingly talented and generous sulkytae! Reimagined by me with permission. Content warning: explicit sex, drug and alcohol use, profanity, angst

The Hummingbirds have been on the hunt for a new lead singer for almost a year now after Callum has left for his soloist career. They've listened to countless auditions, all done by ego-centered guys who were only in it for the fame and the attention. The three bandmates are exhausted, as is their crew. The desperation led to the only possible solution: accepting girls for the auditions. The drummer Robin and the bass guitarist Arden agree with Brianne, their producer, that this is the only way to better their chances of finding someone with talent. However, Hawkins, lead guitarist and backing vocalist, is not having it. According to him, a girl would start fights - if not wars - among the jealous and obsessed fangirls. Unfortunately for him, being in a band equals to being in a democracy, and that means that girls will be auditioning, regardless of Hawkins objection. As expected, most girls that audition are just fans that want a chance to see their idols. That is, until Aderyn comes in. An ex-singer on Broadway, Addie gives everyone hope for more success in the music industry. The band needs her talent, and she needs their money. Two hummingbirds with one stone, right? But what happens when success is provided not by her talent, but by her chemistry with the one member that did not want her in the first place? Everyone knows what to do when fans ask for something: give them what they want. And right now, they want to see tension and romance on stage. Even if fake.

Sydney didn't have much, but that was fine with her. She didn't need much. Growing up on the Washington coast in a lonely beach town, working quietly behind the scenes was what she was good at. Living on the beach was much less glamorous than most people imagine. Her home was a beat up old Winnebago that she had shared with her father until he passed. Her father had been a detached parent. He loved his daughter of course, but he was by no means an affectionate man. She had grown up fending for herself, working backstage at a bar that hosted live bands using a fake ID. After the death of her father she saw an ad for a guitar technician for a local Seattle band. A love of rock and roll had been the one thing that her and her dad had in common. Selling everything that she didn't need she packed up her pickup truck and travelled north to the city, leaving the sleepy town in her rear view mirror. She didn't expect to embark on what would become the adventure of a lifetime. For someone who had hardly left the town she grew up in, the opportunity to get paid to travel the country and listen to great music was a dream come true. The band became her family, and life on the road was a perfect fit for her. Chris Cornell instantly became Sydney's best friend in the whole world. They were in love, that was plain as day to anyone who paid attention. Yet, sometimes love isn't as simple as it should be. Sometimes, love hurts. Warning: This book covers potentially triggering subjects such as depression, suicidal ideation, domestic abuse, sexual assault, poverty and drug use. ▶ Kiana: For the past handful of years, hiding behind anonymous words suited me just fine. I could twist them, expressing myself, and know that people found something of themselves when they were sung. But anonymity is no longer possible. As much as I want to, I can't keep my head buried in the sand and ignore everything around me. Ignore the past and its importance. I'm stepping out of the shadows, in part because I don't have a choice. The other part, though... Because I want to take the plunge and see what's on the other side. Most of all, find my heart again and get things right this time around. However, it's soon apparent that not everyone is in agreement with this new development. I guess I'll see just how many potholes I'll find during this journey. ▶ Duncan: Most people think I have everything I want. Most people also don't know the first thing about me, just what's out there, what I allow them to know. They don't know that fame and money means nothing without the family I've made. The family that's been incomplete for years. However... It doesn't mean I'm a happy camper when that changes, when the missing piece appears out of nowhere. First, because it forces me to face all the feelings, good and bad, that I've tried to push down. Second, because she's not quite the same... But that's okay. And third, because someone thinks they can mess with her, with us. In the end of the day, there's one thing that's as sure as the sun rising every morning: nothing and no one is stepping between me and Kiana this time. Not on my watch. 🏆300 × Adult × 11/17/20 🏆67 × Romantic Suspense × 11/30/2020 Book one in the Toxic Climax series. Dual POV, second-chance love story. 5k-word chapters on Fridays. Please note: Toxic Climax is just the name of the band. Warning: strong language (a lot), sex (some) and violence (uh... some as well).
