Marie Frey's life changed the moment the Galaxy Garrison offered her an opportunity she couldn't possibly decline: To have the possibility to go to space and study new forms of life noone has ever known of before.
And soon that possibility became reality.
So she accepted the offer to fly to Kerberos with three other people. The girl quickly became good friends with Matt Holt while the two older crew members, namely Takashi Shirogane and Matt's father Sam Holt, became role models she respected and admired.
It all seemed perfect and Marie wouldn't have wanted it any different. That was, until a big purple alien spaceship appeared and everything went wrong.

Katie could hear every sound as fear rushed over her when she'd awoken. Shiro had been kind to her and her mother during the mission and that didn't change as they were locked away. They were fine as long as they were together, helping one another and the other prisoners, but then Katie's mother is taken from the cell, leaving Katie with the fear of losing Shiro and being alone.
