The wizarding war is over the dark lord Voldemort has been defeated but many death eaters didn't believe it and many searched for him and this includes Bellatrix and her husband but they took their newborn son with them as they tortured the long bottom family the ministry came and arrested where sent off to the wizard prison Azkaban while their son Regulus lestrange was taking in by a couple that were unable to conceive a child but they didn't hide his bloodline from him.
