What would you do if you were arrested for talking? 1750, Tarn. A day like any other begins in early May at the Montval farm, surrounded by vines, just outside the village of Cadalen. The tranquillity of the place is suddenly interrupted by the arrival of Father Benoît, the priest of Cadalen, with his hard face and emaciated figure. He bursts into the courtyard of the Montval farm and abducts Catherine, to the helplessness of Marcelle, his sister-in-law. In order to reach the final judgement he wanted, Father Benoît approached the local seigneurial authority, represented by the Marquis de Fontrouge, who was also the nephew of the Archbishop of Albi. The Marquis de Fontrouge was not a popular figure in the Albigeois region, as his reputation had been tarnished by a previous murky affair.
